Subject: Assistance Needed to Save Our Soccer Field
Dear Students,
The construction of the new mall and its parking lot are damaging our soccer fields. The new parking lot
has changed the path of the water runoff from heavy rains. Before, the water would runoff towards
Beach Creek. However, over the last six months, the runoff has flown towards the north soccer field.
Over 30% of that land is now in danger of becoming unstable and we will lose one of our fields.
The City Parks Department has contracted with my company to build a series of barriers to prevent the
water runoff from eroding the soccer fields. My company needs your assistance in ranking the materials
we should use to build the barriers. I am looking for a barrier that is effective in preventing erosion, but
is durable. For this first project, I have a budget of $4000 for 1000 ft. of barrier. I have included a data
table from the research that my company has completed.
Please email me your recommendations for the type of barrier my company should use to control water
runoff. I will need them ranked in order from best to worst. I will also need to know why you ranked
them in that order. I need to give the procedure to the City Parks Department.
