in Pilot Butte Cemetery. Mr. Reinhart was born to Lee H. and Gladys D. Dickinson Reinhart on
Feb. 10, 1918, in Ortonville, Minn. He came to Bend in August 1935 and received his
watchmaker's license in 1947. The oldest watchmaker in Central Oregon, he worked for Symons
Jewelry for many years before opening his own shop in October, 1958. He had been a member of
the First Christian Church and the Boy Scouts of America. He had been past President of the
Bend Jaycees and the Kenwood-Kingston PTA. He also had coached Little League. Survivors
include his wife, Wilmetta of Bend, whom he married here on March 28, 1943; a son, Ken of
Prineville; a daughter, Carol of Carlton; three brothers: Arnold and Roger, both of Bend and Lee
of Quartz Hill, Calif.; four sisters: Mrs. Wayne (Virginia) Hamilton and Mrs. Leslie (Neola)

Biography Information for James R. Hitt
Worked as a ranch hand for his first job away from home. He worked with his cousin Kenneth
Harrod for awhile building ranch land dams. later he bought a truck and did contract hauling in
the Gillette, Wy area. After he and Etta separated he went to California. Where he found a job on
the island of Guam with a contractor building a air strip. After he returned to California he
married Helen Richardson. He worked construction and also did some independent trucking.
In 1956 he and Helen went to Alaska for a year. where Ray worked on a striping job for a coal
mine. About a year in duration.
He and Helen and there two sons returned to California were Ray again worked construction.
Moving to Nevada he went to work for a mining contractor.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator, Mine forman and superintendent. and construction
until his retirement when he was 57 after a heart attacked.
Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing. Enjoyed his family and friends. After Helen retired they spent
time traveling in there RV They made several trips to Alaska.. until a couple of years before
Ray's death after a battle with leukemia. He lived; in Campbell County, Wyoming after moving
form Doniphan Nebraska when five years of age with his parents and siblings. Later he lived in
California and Nevada and Alaska for about a year. He moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1969
and resided there until his death. He Served in the US Army a short time before WW ll
discharged for medical reasons. He also went by the name of Ray Hitt (15). He was also known

At 2:30 in the chapel of the Manhattan Bible College, Manhattan, Kansas, Monday afternoon,
July 14, 1947, Miss Doris Eileen Hitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Hitt of Gillette, Wyoming,
was united in marriage to Melvin Towne, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.V. Towne of Canon City,
Colorado, in a lovely double ring ceremony read by Professor W.F. Lown of Manhattan Bible
College.
Lohngrin's Wedding March was played by Mrs. Larry Barnes, who also accompanied Mrs. Ben
Rock at the organ as she sang, 'I Love You Truly.' The bride was given in marriage by F.O.
Weeks. She wore an afternoon frock of white eyelet pique, the material for which was a gift of
her sister, Miss Ruth Hitt of Orange, California. Her crown was designed by the bride herself
with a double row of pleated pique matching the dress. Her veil of shoulder length was a gift of
Mrs. Virgil Feerer. She wore a corsage of pink carnations, and a gold locket, a gift of the groom.
The idea of 'something old, new, borrowed and blue' was carried out. Something old was her
great grandmother's wedding ring, borrowed a blue was a handkerchief loaned by Genevieve
Escritt.
She was attended by Ruth Spurgeon of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, who wore a dress of yellow eyelet
batiste, made like the bride's dress, and a corsage of white carnations. Mr. Don Pack of
Manhattan served the groom as best man. Ushers were: Orville Evans and Maurice Bigger,
Student Ministers of Manhattan Bible College. The groom's mother wore a corsage of white
carnations.
For going away the bride chose a Jersey print street dress with white accessories. After a brief
honeymoon the couple will be at home at 600 North Juliette, Manhattan, Kansas.
Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. S.V. Towne and daughter, Phyllis Jean, of Canon City,
Colorado, parents and sister of the groom.
Mrs. Towne graduated from Campbell Co. High School of Gillette, Wyoming - taught in rural
school and one year in Gillette High School; attended Phillips University at Enid, Oklahoma two
years, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Manhattan Bible College in May this year.
Mr. Towne also attended Phillips University and is now a Junior in Manhattan Bible College,
where he is preparing for the ministry. He now serves the Christian Church in Lincoln, Kansas,
as a student pastor.

a game warden. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt, Knights of Columbus,
Elks Lodge, and V.F.W., all of Pratt.
He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific from 1945-1948 and was
active in the local law enforcement and was an avid sportsman.
On January 14, 1952, he married Rita E. Struckhoff in Grinnell, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Rita; sons, Raymond, Pratt, Joe, Wichita, Jeff, Garden Plain and Pat
of Pratt; daughters, Leanne Irsik, Garden City, Ronda Westerhaus, Pratt, Becky Eastes, Pratt,
Nancy Schwarz, Angelus, Kansas; Aunt Josephine Bradley, Pratt; 22 grandchildren, 7 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Kent Lee Hitt.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at Sacred Heart Church, Pratt, with
Rev. Jim Disker presiding. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

PRATT -- Gene Hitt, 75, Pratt, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002.
Mr. Hitt was born June 27, 1927, in Quinter. He was a retired game warden with Kansas Wildlife
and Parks.
Survivors include his wife, Rita; four sons, Raymond of Pratt, Joe of Wichita, Jeff of Garden
Plain and Pat of Pratt; four daughters, Leanne Irsik of Garden City, Rhonda Westerhaus and
Becky Eastes, both of Pratt, and Nancy Schwarz of Angelus; 22 grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, Pratt. Burial will be in
Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Mr. Hitt died aug. 18, 2004, in Tyler.
Mr. Hitt lived in Tyler six years. He was a former resident of Longview. He was a
member of First Baptist Church in Greggton, and attended Antioch Baptist Church in
Sand Flat. He was a graduate of Troup High School.
His father, Elmo Hitt, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Gloris Cates Ginn, Whitehouse; stepsister, Carol Housley,

SAND FLAT – Funeral Services for Mr. Rickey L. Smith, age 47, of Sand Flat, are
scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in
Lindale with the Rev. Milton Gardner and Rev. Park Robertson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sand Flat Cemetery under direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral
Home in Lindale.
Mr. Smith died Sunday in a Dallas hospital.
He was born Jan. 23, 1954, in Maud, the son of Earnest D. and Edith Irene Ward Smith.
Mr. Smith was park superintendent at Tyler State Park where he had worked for 27 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winona, and was a lifelong resident of
the Sand Flat area.
Rickey is survived by his wife, Gayla Smith of Sand Flat; two daughters, Tracy Smart of
Troup and Lori Montoya of Austin; two brothers and sisters–in-law, Truitt and Pat
Hammonds of Marshall, and Danny and Martha Holley of Winona; three sisters and
brothers-in-law, Alethea and Gary Allen of Tyler, JoAnn and Kent Schilie of Hollister,
Calif., and Carolyn Davis of Gainsville; a brother-in-law, Don Shoulders of Austin; and
three grandchildren, Miranda and Nathan Smart of Troup and Brandon Montoya of
Austin.
Pallbearers will be John Buffington, Roy Cooper, Gary Easterling, Gaylon Jones, Bill
Langley and Rick Myers. Employees of Texas State Parks and Wildlife will serve as
honorary pallbearers.

ATOKA -- Services for Rebecca Josephine Briscoe Setliff will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20,
2003, at the Penn and A Street Church of Christ in Atoka with Rex Earnhart, Kaiser, Ore., Mrs.
Setliff's nephew, and David Harendt officiating. Interment will be at Green Meadows Cemetery
under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
Rebecca Setliff, beloved wife, mother, teacher and friend died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at her
home in Ardmore. She was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Frederick, Tillman County, to Benjamin
Franklin and Olive Eva Hitt Briscoe. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1935 and
attended Cameron College in Lawton two years before transferring to Oklahoma A&M in
Stillwater where she graduated in 1939 with a bachelor's of science degree in business
administration and education.
She married Darwin Hale Setliff in Oklahoma City on Dec. 22, 1939, and they moved to Atoka
County, Okla., in November of 1940. In December 1999 they celebrated their 60th anniversary
in Atoka. Mrs. Setliff was not only a teacher and homemaker but also was supportive of her
husband in business and ranching pursuits. She began her teaching career at Olney, Coal County,
Okla., and taught there from 1959 to 1962, then taught business and English classes at Atoka
High School until her retirement in 1979.
Josephine was known and loved for her dry wit, humor and compassion for others. Over the
years she was active in her community and served as president of PTA, the Pink Iris Garden
Club and Pioneer Club. She was active in Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, her bridge club and was
a member of the publishing staff of the "Tales Of Atoka County Heritage." She also worked to
establish the Atoka County Museum. The Setliffs were active members of the Penn and A Street
Church of Christ. In 1997 they began making their home in Ardmore, Okla., where they were
part of McLish Avenue Church of Christ.
Mrs. Setliff was preceded in death by her parents; her uncle, Z.V. Hitt in 1963; her son, Michael
Darwin Setliff in 1980; and her husband, Darwin, in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Heatherly and her husband, Glenn, Abilene, Texas;
grandson, Ron Heatherly, and his daughter, Lacey Rebecca Heatherly, Dallas; grandson, Phil
Heatherly, and his son, Chase Heatherly, Arlington, Texas; her daughter, Meredith Smartt, and
husband, Claude, Ardmore; granddaughter, Rebecca Smartt Powell, and husband, Jim, and their
children, Bethany, Caleb, Isaac, Meredith and Jacob, all of Flower Mound, Texas; grandson,
John Smartt, and wife, Shelli, and their son, Evan, Norman; grandson, David Smartt, and wife,

Earl J. Hitt graduated from Bartlesville High School in 1938. He worked for Phillips
Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma until the outbreak of World War II.
At the outbreak of the war, he volunteered for pilot training in the Army Air Corps, was
accepted, and received his commission as a 2nd Lt. and his pilots wings on 6 September
1942;
primary flight training was at Hicks Field, Fort Worth, Texas; Basic training was at
Goodfellow
Field, San Angelo, Texas; and Advance training was at Foster Field, Victoria, Texas.
After
receiving his commission, he was assigned to the 309th Bomb Group, 376th Squadron at
Columbia Army Air Base, Columbia, South Carolina, for training in B-25, Mitchell,
bombers and
where he was assigned to the 345th Bomb Group, 498th Bomb Squadron. The 345th
departed
Hamilton Field, San Francisco, in early May 1943 and flew non-stop to Honolulu,
Hawaii. After
a short rest, the 345th flew via Christmas and other islands to Brisbane, Australia.
Following a
short training period in Australia the group flew to it's first combat location at Port
Moresby, New
Guinea. On arrival in New Guinea, Earl's crew named their B-25 the 'Hitt and Miss'. The
Hitt
and Miss flew it's first combat mission on 29 June 1943. After some 60 combat missions,
the last
being flown in February 1944, Earl was transfered to Headquarters, 5th Bomber
Command, as
Ass't Operations Officer. Earl was promoted to Captain on 9 March 1944 and returned to
the
U.S. in June 1944. He was placed on inactive duty in August 1945, and he was placed in
the
retired reserve in 1963; with the permanent rank of Major.
On separation from the armed services, Earl returned to school; first at Tulsa University
as an
undergraduate in Engineering. He transfered to Oklahoma A & M College (now
Oklahoma State
University) where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1949
and a
Master of Science in Engineering in January 1950. Earl first worked for Texas Electric
Service
Company in Big Springs and Fort Worth, Texas. In 1951 he was employed by the Sandia
Corporation in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a staff member developing nuclear
weapons. In
1952 he was employed by Chance Vought Aircraft, Dallas, Texas (now known as LTV,
Corp).
He remained with the LTV group for some 18 years, leaving 1970 to form a new business
with
his brother in St. Louis, Missouri. During 1960-1964, Earl was Chief Engineer for
Kentron
Hawaii, Ltd, a subsidiary of LTV in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Earl and his brother, Eugene Allen Hitt, formed a business in St. Louis, Missouri, in late
1970
known as 'Hitt & Associates'. The company was originally formed as a consulting and
industry
representation firm. The nature of the company changed over the years. In the late 1970's
the
company also became a distributor and dealer in personal computers. For some thirty
years, Earl
has built, repaired, serviced and programmed personal computers. Earl retired in 1986,
but has
continued his activities with personal computers.
Earl became interested in Genealogy before he retired and has continued that interest post
retirement. Up until his wife became unable to travel, he and his wife researched their
families at
numerous archives, courthouses and libraries around the country.
