Secret Garden & Independent Novel Assignments You will complete the following activities in your reading journal. Be sure to label each assignment clearly. It is your responsibility to make sure that you have assignments completed by their due date and that they are showing high quality work. Pace yourself. Use your agenda to help give yourself some guidelines. * Read The Secret Garden chapters 3-14. Literature Webs You must complete one Literature Web for the Secret Garden on two chapters of your choice (one web for each of the selected chapters) from chapters 3-14. Due by Feb. 6th. You must complete one Literature Web on two chapters of your choice (one web for each of the selected chapters) in your independent novel. Due by Feb. 6th. Vocabulary I have given you some vocabulary words and page numbers. Use context clues to define those words. Keep a list of other words new to you and what you think they mean. Write the page number down as well. Select 2 vocabulary words and complete a Vocabulary Web for each word. Staple the webs into your reading journal. Due by Feb. 6th. As you read your independent novel, record at least 2 words that you are unfamiliar with. These words will be vocabulary for your book. You are to do 2 Vocabulary Webs for your independent novel. Due by Feb. 6th. Change Matrix Begin completing the Change Matrix for The Secret Garden and your Independent novel. You may do this on an additional piece of paper and staple it into your reading journal. Include specific evidence form the stories to support the various changes that you note on the matrix. This will not be due until both novels are completed, but begin working on it as you read both books. Written Reflections These will be written in your Reader Response journal. You will do this for both the Secret Garden and your independent novel. * Yes, you may take your reader response journal home for this assignment. Just remember to get it from the crate. You want to make any entry after about every 50 pages, or more frequently if you find something that you need to respond. Your responses are to be of high quality and have some deep thought put into them. Look at page 27 in your text for ideas for response entries. (We also glued suggestions in the front of your journal as well.) I will be collecting and checking Reader Response journals regularly. Due by Feb. 6th
