New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health
Pilot-Grant Program
Request for Proposal
The New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health (IFNH) is the epicenter for interdisciplinary research in the area of
food, nutrition and health at Rutgers. One of the Institute’s resources, the first of its kind at a U.S. university, is the TIM
system (TNO GastroIntestinal Model), a computer-controlled model that simulates the functioning of the human upper
gastrointestinal tract (stomach and small intestine). As a followup to the 2011 TIM Symposium and to increase awareness
of the value of this system for studies involving digestive processes, the Institute is making available funding from its
Endowed Research Fund to support creative interdisciplinary research that makes use of the TIM system. Funding is in
the form of pilot grants to enable data to be generated in support of upcoming grants from major funding agencies.
