The New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health (IFNH) is the epicenter for interdisciplinary research in the area of food, nutrition and health at Rutgers. The mission of the IFNH is to make New Jersey the “Healthy State” and a model for the nation. Given the high rate of childhood obesity in New Jersey, one of the major programmatic goals of the IFNH is to prevent childhood obesity and in doing so offset chronic obesity-related diseases in adulthood, e.g., diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The IFNH recognizes the key role nutritional metabolomics in general, and lipidomics in particular, may play in identifying at “risk children” and developing pre-emptive strategies to change the trajectory of the obesity epidemic. To this end, the IFNH wishes to support creative interdisciplinary research that leverages lipidomics through the
IFNH ’s core facility. Research funds are being made available from the Institute’s Endowed Research Fund to enable pilot-data to be generated for upcoming grants from major funding agencies.
