OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to present an impromptu speech centered
around a specific audience.
DO NOW:
Journal #4/Impromptu Speech:
Choose a holiday. Write a manuscript about that holiday that is geared
to a specific AUDIENCE. For example, you may want to write about
Christmas to an audience of 4 or 5 year olds. Use appropriate
language. Be prepared to deliver your manuscript for your specified
audience. You may work with a partner or go solo.

2. Workshop: Work on Informative Speeches.
3. Homework: Read Chapter 6; Informative Speech due 10/21; bring

1. Explain why public speakers must be audience centered.
2. Explain what it means to say that audiences are egocentric.
3. Identify the major demographic traits of audiences.
4. Identify the major situational traits of audiences.
5. Use a questionnaire as a method of audience analysis for
classroom speeches.
6. Explain how a speaker can adapt to the audience while
preparing the speech and while delivering the speech.
DO NOW:
Journal #5: Advertisement
Analyze the advertisement on your desk. Who is the audience? What
appeals are being used to persuade buyers? How might the appeals
differ if the ads were designed to persuade a different audience?

4. Explain the four kinds of speech connectives and their roles
in a speech.
