BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT AND OBITUARY PROJECT
Using the list of names on the opposite page, pick two (2) people and complete
the following assignment to earn up to 30 extra credit points. You may do one or both.
If you do one the most you can get is 15 points.
Birth announcement (15 points) – Using one of the two people you identified,
create a birth announcement. This will be completed in an outline form. (See examples)
Use sentences when appropriate. The announcement must include:
1. Full name
2. Parents
3. Birth date
4. Size and weight (made up, but based on their size and appearance in later life)
5. Siblings (not the ones that came after them)
6. Place of birth
7. Religion
8. Position in line for the crown if royalty
Obituary (15 points) – Using the other person, create an obituary written in
paragraph form including the following information:
1. Full name
2. Birth and death dates (in parenthesis)
3. Dates of rule if a monarch or government leader
4. Marriages and descendants
5. Significant accomplishmentsWhat are they best known for?
What were their specific accomplishments?
Was there an everlasting effect on history?
6. Picture – Inserted or drawn
7. Title or headline – Placed above the picture
Resources that can be used are the Internet, encyclopedias, books on presidents,
and the best – the Biographical Dictionary. Make use of all the resources. Cards can be
created using Microsoft Publisher or by using online greeting cards. Examples of
obituaries can be found in your local newspaper or online at
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/obituaries/, be sure to click on each heading to read the
complete obituary.
You may elect to send me an E-MAIL announcement from one of the card
manufacturing companies as your project. A printed card must be turned in also. Ask for
help after your research is complete. Many of the following sites give information on
biographies and relating to people important to America’s History. You are not limited to
using only these sites. You may need to do more research.
