Sr. Food Scientist Product Development
Our client is a major pet food company dedicated to nutrition technology. They are a leader in
developing innovative, cost effective, healthy and flavorful products. They currently have 4 new
opportunities for Senior Scientists in the Dry, Treats and Wet categories at their facility in the Midwest.
Key responsibilities include:
• Identify, evaluate and champion new, patentable and innovative technologies that can be used in
development of new and improved products for pets.
• Partner with Manager/Director to develop and refine research strategy to establish clear deliverables
for identification and evaluation of new technologies. Ensure strategy delivers a pipeline of technology
options for short-term and long-term commercialization.
• Provide expertise in integrating basic scientific data (e.g., biochemical, genomic, metabolomic data)
with clinical outcomes. Integrate consumer and veterinary insights into the research program strategy.
• Maintain familiarity with the latest developments in appropriate areas of genomics and genetics so
that new products and product improvements reflect the true "state of the art."
• Design, analyze, summarize and write final reports of data from internal and outside research studies
and make presentations to management and cross-functional groups, especially Product Development,
Clinical Studies and Marketing.
• Simultaneously manage multiple projects, project budgets, time-lines and be accountable for
deliverables.
• Cultivate relationships with researchers and clinicians outside of the organization to provide expertise,
ideas and technologies that fill gaps.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• Ph.D. degree in nutritional biochemistry
• 10+ years of post-graduate experience
Preferred:
• Experience in canine/feline or human nutrition or pharmaceutical industry

developing innovative, cost effective, healthy and flavorful products. They currently have a new
opportunity for a Senior Scientist, Flavor Innovation, at their facility in the Midwest.
Key responsibilities include:
Identify and evaluate new flavor technologies for priority projects to sustain three- year technology
pipeline.
Design, evaluate and optimize flavor delivery systems for key product categories that are compatible
with manufacturing capabilities to maximize flavor delivery and product shelf-life.
Participation in product sensory evaluation.
Deliver on multiple research and project briefs in a highly professional and ethical manner.
Develop and manage collaborative partnerships with external innovation and key suppliers.
Design, analyze, summarize and deliver written and verbal reports to team members and management.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
B.S. in Food Science or Food Engineering
8+ years' experience in the application of flavorings, botanicals, and seasonings.
Preferred:
M.S. in Food Science or Food Engineering
8+ years' product development; flavor applications; thermal process (extrusion/retort)
Experience working with savory flavors
