AAA Staff Restructure and Appointments Announced
The Executive Director of the AAA announced today the results of a restructure at the
AAA, the national body of the Australian motoring clubs.
Mr McIntosh said "the new structure would enable the organisation to assist its
constituent members in advocating policy positions, representing them in national and
international activities, and in facilitating information exchanges.
Four new positions have been created with new appointments effective from January
2000.
The organisational structure will be as follows:
Executive Director - Lauchlan McIntosh
Liaison Manager - Julie Anderson
Director Research and Policy - John Metcalfe
Director Technical Services - David Lang
Director Communications - Greg Hunting
Ms Anderson has been with the AAA since 1995 with extensive experience in
managing relationships with constituents and external organisations. Her previous
experience was with the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, the Australian Mining
Industry Council and the University of Newcastle.
Mr Metcalfe, currently Assistant Director, joined the AAA in 1992 with experience in
various government departments including the Bureau of Agricultural Economics,
Bureau of Industry Economics and the Bureau of Transport and Communications
Economics. Mr Metcalfe holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of
Economics Degree from the Australian National University.
Mr McIntosh said he is pleased to welcome two new staff to the AAA. These are Mr
David Lang, who was previously Chief Engineer for the Automobile Association in the
United Kingdom. This role included responsibility for patrol force capability, including
technical information and training, fleet management, operations support, and
technical policy development in government legislation, standards and consumer
protection.
He had experience in the Austin Rover and Rover Group in the United Kingdom, in
areas including Honda Technical Liaison, crashworthiness testing, homologation
approvals, chassis development and vehicle and power train electronics. Mr Lang
also had experience with British Airways, and is currently a Director of EuroNCAP. Mr
Lang has a Master of Science and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.
Mr Hunting was previously the Chief of Staff for the Minister for Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Affairs providing day-to-day policy and political advice to the Minister,
management of Ministerial and Electorate staff, policy development and

implementation and liaison with State and Territory Governments, industry groups
and indigenous organisations. Mr Hunting has experience as Managing Director of his
own marketing and public relations company, after extensive experience as a
broadcaster, producer and journalist in regional and urban Australia.
