June 24, 2015 Dear Parents of the SJBS Family, Thanks be to God for His many blessings this school year! And thank you for all the ways you continue to support St. John Bosco Schools. Many are showing their support this week as we do some in-house moving. PreKindergarten will have its own space next year, in the former Kindergarten room. Kindergarten will be located right across from the office. Second grade will move down the hall. Middle school and high school classrooms are all being moved to the West Avenue wing of the school, where there are eight classrooms in all. If you can support our teachers with your flair for design or your willingness to get dirty, please contact the teacher of your choice and offer help! There are some changes in our faculty for next year. Mrs. Suzanne Giovenco has elected to take on the Pre-Kindergarten class; it was due to her enthusiasm that we have been able to expand our PreK options for next year. Thank you, Mrs. Giovenco, for your vision and your desire to build SJBS! Mrs. Kelly Gotham will come on board as our new Kindergarten teacher; she has excellent references from within the Bosco community. Mrs. Gotham has much experience at the Kindergarten level, and she will be a great fit amongst our beautiful faculty. Also changing assignments is Ms. Karen Stevens, who after a year of teaching second grade, will be moving into middle and high school classes in English and Literature, her area of expertise. She brings a passionate love for the words of language and the Word of God to this position. At this writing, the Second Grade teacher position has not been filled; I ask for your prayers and recommendations. We say good-bye to Mr. Timothy Altier, who taught middle and high school Science classes this year. Mr. Altier brought solid instruction and challenging questions to his students. Another plus: he always put the math questions on the Science tests! The students enjoyed Mr. Altier’s classes and the labs he led at St. John Fisher. We hope to see Mr. Altier visit us in the coming year! 501 Garfield Street, East Rochester, NY 14445 ~ (585) 348-9401 ~ (585) 348-9403 fax www.johnboscoschools.org Miss Taylor Watson will step into the Science position for next year. Miss Watson has a strong background in Science as well as the Catholic faith, and she is well prepared for bringing faith and reason together in her classroom. We will be offering a la carte classes next year at the middle and high school level. This will provide a service to families who homeschool their children and will be a benefit to our existing student body as well. We will send a list of course offerings out as soon as the schedule has been prepared. Spread the word about this great opportunity! Enclosed in this mailing is a flyer on instrumental music lessons, which will be offered in 2015-16 by Mrs. Susan Viavottine. Ms. Viavottine has an excellent reputation for music instruction. She is in Music Ministry at St. Catherine of Siena parish and at one time did the same job at St. Jerome’s here in East Rochester. Start thinking about this option for your children. Sign-ups will occur in September for students to try out the various instruments. The teachers and I are excited to attend the 3rd Annual Catholic Classical Schools Conference, hosted near Cleveland by the Lyceum, another classical school. Each year our faculty spends these four days immersed in the contemplation and study of classical education, amidst educators from around the nation and the world, to grow in our understanding of this great gift, which leads us to Christ Himself. Please keep us in your prayers this July 20-23. Thank you for the beautiful support you provide to this community always. Sincerely in Christ, Colleen Richards 501 Garfield Street, East Rochester, NY 14445 ~ (585) 348-9401 ~ (585) 348-9403 fax www.johnboscoschools.org
