Description of Business Environment:
The program is a very dynamic, information technology-focused effort with multiple
subcontractors supporting an operationally oriented customer with numerous mission
critical demands. Projects on the program typically take the form of Task Orders, which
cover a wide range of budget, duration, scope, technology, and product types and offer
complex and challenging opportunities.
Specific Job Description:
Lockheed Martin UK requires a Systems Engineer to join the team able to work across
several programmes. The role will encompass all aspects of a systems engineering
lifecycle across several domains. The successful candidate will have demonstrable
knowledge in defining and capturing requirements, developing system level designs and
seeing work through to verification and validation activities. The successful candidate shall
have an understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering and be able to work with
Agile development principals.
Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering systems engineering and technical
design assurance activities against both business and technical architectures. The
successful candidate will be expected to proactively work with customers to ensure the
successful delivery of integrated outcomes and to ensure engineering activities are
consistent across all Task Orders, while providing visibility of progress, emerging risks and
issues. Successful candidates will perform systems analysis, design and delivery activities,
including technical planning, architectural trade studies and management of interfaces
between internal and external systems.
Successful candidates will be expected to apply their knowledge of computer systems and
industry best practice in the performance of their duties and be responsible for ensuring
compliance standards are met by the application of appropriate processes, procedures
and tools throughout the systems and software development lifecycles. Successful
candidates will be expected to display a proactive and innovative approach to developing
complex technical solutions to difficult customer business/mission problems. This role will
require frequent interaction with the customer in a technical capacity. The successful
candidate will be expected to become recognised as a ‘go to’ resource with in-depth
knowledge of software architectures and an understanding of the software development
lifecycle.
The position will be full-time within the existing team developing cutting edge software
solutions for both customer and Lockheed Martin enterprises.
Required Skills:

Knowledge as a Systems Engineer in programmes that encompasses systems
architecture, requirements analysis, configuration control

Knowledge of various Systems Engineering lifecycle concepts

Technical confidence in a customer facing/consultation role.

Good communication skills, able to work with other Lockheed Martin staff and
regularly with customers and subcontractors and internal product development
teams.

Knowledge of procedures relating to software architecture and design, software
integration and test, and requirements verification.

Ability to adjust, sort and distinguish priorities; a flexible approach to tasks

Knowledge in process-oriented roles, and demonstrated ability to function in
process driven environments.

Demonstrable knowledge in Model Based Systems Engineering and Architecture
Frameworks such as MODAF/DODAF/Zacman.

Development and maintenance of Requirements using DOORS

Development and management of System level architecture models using
UML/SysML

Proven ability to learn quickly.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

High standard of ethics and personal accountability.
Desired Skills:
 Ability to take responsibility for technical aspects of a project, and work closely with
project management to delivery to time, quality and cost budgets.
 Track record of WBS creation, timescale and cost estimation.
 Knowledge in Java, J2EE architectures and SOA Platforms.
 Demonstrated knowledge of operating in technically complex telecommunications and
software development environments.
 Working knowledge of ITIL
 PRINCE II / APM Qualifications
Standard Job Description:
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk,
and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at
all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation,
operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of
customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical,
schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade
studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer
requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
Ideally require a Bachelors degree from an accredited college. Will also consider
individuals with equivalent experience / combined education. Considered an emerging
authority
