We can make a difference where others can't. The Ansel Clinic Nottingham consists of a 24 bed tier 4 service, built and operating to Low Secure standards. The services comprises two 2 wards of 12 beds, with one ward acting as a rehabilitation facility, and forming the basis of a step down pathway. Our psychologically informed and planned services are delivered within an operational framework developed specifically to meet the needs of the patients we work with. This means that our approach is consistent, boundaried, safe, resilient and clinically directed. The experience and broad skill set of our professional clinical team enables us to deliver a range of therapeutic interventions. We are not a single therapy model service. We structure our approach to each patient’s different and changing needs. Our services are offered in time limited episodes of care at an inclusive price and with agreed outcomes and break points. We are good at what we do. Our patients make significant progress in relatively short periods of time. Our average length of stay is 15 months and 30% of our patients have been discharged within a year of arrival at the Clinic. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Interact in an appropriate way with patients teaching individual living skills and supporting them in day to day activities on the ward providing a safe therapeutic milieu that supports the therapeutic initiatives and function of the ward/unit and individual care plans. 2. Carry out agreed nursing practices and procedures in accordance with the NMC Code of Practice. 3. Administer the running of the ward by facilitating individual and group therapies to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for both patients and staff. 4. Assess patients and determine areas of work within a multi disciplinary framework and coordinate patient treatment on the unit within the agreed functional and treatment models thus providing a ward and unit based therapeutic service for P.D. patients 5. Facilitate ongoing training and supervision of associate social therapists as mentors, and undertake own professional self development 6. Be aware of and improve own boundaries with patients through reflective practice and peer supervision with the joint aims of maintaining safety and progressing patients. 7. Work as part of a team and adhere to its therapeutic framework to provide a highly consistent, competent and safe approach to patient care 8. Participate in the peer supervision of other social therapists, enabling them to work in a consistent, reflective and safe manner with enhanced teamwork skills using agreed methods 9. Coordinate and be involved in weekly planning cycles of patient care using Care Programme Approach. Coordinate and develop individual and group programs for patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 10. Maintain safe custody of checking, witnessing and recording all drugs in accordance with the Clinic’s policy and the NMC Code of Practice in administration of drugs 11. Ordering of medication, stock control, safe disposal & appropriate administration 12. To be responsible for staff delegation with regards to section 17 (Leave planning, risk assessments, documentation) 13. Care coordinator responsibilities to include the implementation of the shared pathway documentation 14. Conducting well planned, effective and regular clinical supervisions with Social Therapy Assistants 15. To chair staff handover & MDT morning meetings on a daily basis 16. To take the lead on service users admissions/discharges as directed by the team leader. 17. Initiating & implementing seclusion in partnership with the RC & Senior Nurse On-Call. 18. To act as a preceptor/mentor for junior & newly qualified nurses 19. The post holder is responsible for compliance with all Ansel Ltd policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and management instructions, all security matters and all health and safety issues. Person Specification Qualifications & Knowledge Essential Registered Nurse in either RMNH or RNLD Good general education and computer literacy in main Windows packages Willingness to undertake relevant training in line with Company and professional requirements Experience Essential Experience of working with vulnerable adults with mental health issues; preferably within a secure setting Understanding the practice and principles of adult safeguarding, and of developing professional boundaries Of developing working positive relationships and engaging in partnership work with external agencies Of formulation and care planning Of handling highly confidential, sensitive and distressing information in line with appropriate safeguarding protocol Of report writing in relation to MHA Tribunals and mangers Desirable Further relevant professional qualifications at degree level Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its practicable applications in supporting patient; in particularly Section 17 Desirable Experience of supervising a staff team; including conducting supervision and dispute resolution Experience of working at a senior level within a secure ward environment Experience of carrying out MVA, including verbal deescalation and a range of panels Of amending staff rotas and arranging cover as and when required Of managing patient medication, stock control, safe disposal & appropriate administration Skills Essential Strong interpersonal and organisational skills Willingness and ability to work flexibly as part of a team and in accordance to the needs of the service Ability to create, develop and implement support plans and therapeutic activities; ensuring patient involvement is at the heart of all we do Ability to motivate and engage staff members to contribute towards inclusive working and positive outcomes Other Requirements Essential Able to work collaboratively as part of a multi disciplinary team A strong team player with a committed approach to health and social care Commitment to the principles of equal practice Supporting the aims and business objectives of the Ansel Group breakaway techniques Desirable Desirable Full clean UK driving license The details given in this job description reflect the main duties and responsibilities of this post at time of writing.
