POSITION OBJECTIVES
New Jersey SEEDS is a privately funded, statewide, nonprofit organization. We identify motivated,
high-achieving students from low-income families, provide them with the education and skills they
need to succeed and place them at independent schools, colleges and universities across the
country. The SEEDS Admissions and Placement Department is responsible for the recruitment,
selection and placement of these students.
The Placement Officer will be responsible for providing administrative support for the Admissions
and Placement Department, as well as advising students during the placement process. This
department works is a fast paced environment, which requires staff to transition smoothly between
group and individual work. There is a strong value placed on community relationships and customer
service. The Placement Officer must have the ability to act on behalf of SEEDS in a professional
manner, and to effectively communicate with students, families, and education professionals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
 Student advising: Manage caseload of 20+ Young Scholars (fifth/sixth graders) through the
private school application process
 Event Coordination: Assist in planning and executing events such as the secondary school
and college fairs
 Placement Process: Enter data from placement forms and maintain placement files;
implement placement calendar; support financial aid efforts
 Communication: Coordinate placement mailings; contact families; schedule phone calls and
visits with schools;
 Data: Report on admissions decisions, financial aid packages and matriculations
 Recruitment: Schedule and conduct recruitment presentations with feeder schools
 Admissions: Provide support as needed; review and evaluate applicant files (fourth, fifth,
seven and tenth grade entry points)
NECESSARY WORK EXPERIENCE/LEVEL OF EDUCATION




Four-year college degree required; recent college graduates encouraged to apply
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment
Valid driver’s license required
Administrative experienced preferred
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Filemaker database experience a plus.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaker a plus
The ability to work independently
Available for approximately 15 days of domestic travel per year
WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires some work on weekends and evenings (advance notice given).
