September 5, 2012 :: For Immediate Release
The British Arrows return to Cincinnati World Cinema for a third annual presentation.
Cincinnati is one of ten U. S. cities to host this prestigious and entertaining program.
AAF Cincinnati to present concurrent “Best of Cincinnati Advertising” exhibit.
Offering clever, creative, emotionally engaging stories
instead of hard sell, the 2012 British Arrows winners
are delightfully entertaining. The British Arrows
Awards (BAA) program is a collection of the
best made-in-the-UK adverts for world-wide
Television, Cinema and the Internet.
“Local creative professionals really enjoy the British
Arrows,” says Swallow, “they attend for inspiration and
to check out their competition in Europe.”
Sharing common attributes of imagination, wit
and visual brilliance, the BAA program covers a
broad range of products and brands. The
program melds themes of misdirection, reverse
psychology, a bit of sex and a lot of British
humor into a creative and entertaining package.
Why do thousands of people turn out to see this
program in New York, Los Angeles and a handful of
other markets? "It has something for everyone
and audiences love the variety," says Dean Otto,
assistant curator for film and video at the Walker in
Minneapolis, where thousands of patrons attend the
sold-out annual British Arrows screenings.
These award-winning ads and public service
announcements (PSAs) are little movies that tell
compelling stories. In the U.K. people don’t mind
buying but they do not want to be sold. With that in
mind, the Brits design their ads to be charming, induce a
smile, engage emotions and create rapport. Often, the
advertiser’s identity is not revealed until the final frames
– making it fun to guess the product involved.
