Egg shakers ~ shake your sillies out Do a fingerplay to re-focus attention Bells—hand them out and do a rhyme or song Whole body songs, such as Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes 2 little dicky birds Hello hands, goodbye hands Dance Your Hands Up (or the fingers version) Popcorn kernels w/scarves Do wiggle movement w/loud and soft sounds While reading, do gestures to make it interactive What do you do with kids in storytime who are the “wrong age”? Tell parents let’s see how they do Don’t turn them away Use older kids as helpers For older kids: give them a stuffed animal to play pretend parent and child Do turn away too young kids—re-direct them to another class Be clear about age that it’s for, try to re-direct Strict about ages because of developmental stages Can still participate, but let younger kids answer questions What’s your favorite food song or rhyme?
