The Great Depression: The Impact of Roosevelt’s New Deal Policies on the Economic Conflicts of the United States Objective: Students should learn about the impact of the Great Depression and the activities and programs created by Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal policies. Students can use this assignment to learn about the political system of the 1930s and interpret how Roosevelt’s programs affected American History. Students: 6th Grade Social Studies Students Activity: The students can use the websites, books, journal articles, and other internet tools on the Great Depression Pathfinder to learn about Franklin Roosevelt’s political polices and the government regulations engineered to create jobs and increase business income in the Great Depression. Students will learn about the Works Project Administration, the FDIC, the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, the Social Security Administration, and other programs that were created by Franklin Roosevelt. The teacher can divide the students into small groups and encourage the students to engage in a debate. The students will interpret the impact of the New Deal programs. The teacher can assign one group to promote the use of the New Deal policies in the 1930s, and the other team will learn about the inefficiencies of the government programs. Student Questions: 1.
