COMMUNITY FACTS
WEIGHTED GRADES
Joliet West High School is located forty-five miles southwest of
Chicago. It is a diversified business, professional and industrial
community.
Students are graded on a 4.0 point scale with letter grades of A, B,
C, D, F. Grade point average is computed according to a system of
weighted grades, which reflect the relative demands of the courses.
Because of the weighted grade system, students may attain a G.P.A.
greater than 4.0

DESCRIPTION:
A four-year comprehensive public high school
CEEB/ACT CODE:
Students are assigned to course levels on the basis of test scores,
teachers’ recommendation and achievement. A student may be in
one or more honors and college prep courses at one time.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students must earn a total of 22.0 credits, 17.5 of which must be for
academic courses. Specific courses required:

CURRICULUM
The school day is composed of seven 55-minute periods. The school
operates on a semester pattern. A broad range of course offerings
are taught at three ability levels, which include college prep,
Honors/Advanced Placement, and Special Education. In addition,
summer school courses are available and students may take college
course work for dual credit through Joliet Junior College.
