Loanhead Primary School Eco-Committee Meeting Minutes Date Friday 21st September (11.00 – 11.45) Present: P7 Skye, Nicole, Lewis C P6 Robbie P5 Amber, Matthew P4 Isobel, Lana, Leah P3 Cameron, Lewis A P2 Kai P1 Rylan Teachers: Mrs Hunter, Miss Malcolm Guests: Important things that were discussed The Eco Committe from last year joined the new committee to tell them all about their hard work from last year. We tried to get rid of litter by litter picking in the playground and in the woods. We got new litter pickers in school and gave them out to classes with a rota. We tried to get everyone to only fill their bottles with what they will drink. We encouraged everyone to use the correct bins. Gemma from McDonald’s set the Scrapheap Challenge. We had a Day of Action with an Earth Hour. We did an assembly and sang ‘Don’t Drop Litter, Put it in the Bin’. We put reminder cards in each classroom. The children felt that there is still some litter around the bushes and behind the fence and that we could do better with saving water. The new eco committee would like to plan an assembly and perhaps introduce a reward for those who put litter in the bin. They are also concerned that animals will get trapped in litter and would like to raise this at assembly too. Action Points Mrs Hunter will take photos of the new reps. Begin planning the next assembly. Eco reps will check their classroom to make sure they have all the correct recycling bins and reminder cards. Next Eco Meeting: Friday 12th October. Loanhead Primary School Eco-Committee Meeting Minutes Date Monday 5th November 2012 (12.30 - 1pm) Present: P7 Skye, Nicole P6 Robbie P5 Amber P4 Isobel P3 Cameron P2 P1 Teachers: Mrs Hunter, Miss Malcolm Guests: Important things that were discussed The Eco Committee split into 3 groups to begin planning ideas for the assembly. The groups rotated around three sheets with three key questions. These were: What do we want to tell the school at our Eco assembly? How are we going to tell them? Who is going to do what? After the initial ideas shower, the children decided they would like to make a PowerPoint to remind the school about the three topics and the Eco Code. They also want to make posters to remind the school what the three topics are and Amber would like to write a short play to make the assembly more fun. The Assembly will be on Tuesday 4th December. We will meet again on Friday 16th November in the ICT suite to plan the assembly, write the play and make the PowerPoint and posters. Action Points Robbie , Isobel and Cameron will work on the PowerPoint for the assembly. Amber and Skye will work on writing a play to perform at assembly. Nicole, Rylan and Kai will make posters to show at assembly. Loanhead Primary School Eco-Committee Meeting Minutes Date Friday 7th December 2012 (9.45 – 10.15am)) Present: P7 Skye, Nicole P6 Robbie P5 Amber P4 Isobel P3 Cameron P2 Kai P1 Rylan Teachers: Mrs Hunter, Miss Malcolm Guests: Important things that were discussed After the Assembly on Tuesday, the Eco committee went around each class to collect all the suggestions to improve the Eco Code. Today, we worked in pairs to read through each of the suggestions and we sorted them into piles depending on which area of Eco the suggestion was about. We read them out to each other and picked our favourites. We decided to keep the three rhyming statements because we thought these were fun and easy to remember. We changed some of the other statements because we thought the school had made better suggestions and we changed the statement about lights because we wanted to remind everyone that we should save energy by turning off Smartboards and computers as well as by turning off the lights. Action Points We will meet again after Christmas on Friday 18th January. During this meeting, we will plan another assembly to tell the school about the new Eco Code. We will also set a challenge to each class to make and display the code in their classroom. We will perform Amber’s play during this assembly too as we did not have time to rehearse and show it before Christmas.
