Job Announcement Subject Matter Expert (.4) DB is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the subject matter expert position within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Serves as subject matter expert, possessing in-depth knowledge of a particular area, such as business, computer science, engineering, mathematics, applicable federal policies, regulations and standards, or the various sciences. Provides technical knowledge and analysis of highly specialized applications and operational environments, high-level functional systems analysis, design, integration, documentation and implementation advice on exceptionally complex problems that need extensive knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation. Participates as needed in all phases of software development with emphasis on the planning, analysis, testing, integration, documentation, and presentation phases. Applies principles, methods and knowledge of the functional area of capability to specific task order requirements, advanced mathematical principles and methods to exceptionally difficult and narrowly defined technical problems in engineering and other scientific applications to arrive at automated solutions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to and collaborate with the Pathology Electronic Reporting Taskforce (PERT) mapping team that is working to develop the mapping and coding of CAP Cancer Checklist data items within the CAP eCC software to the corresponding North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) data. Work with PERT mapping team to develop a methodology to validate the mapping and coding of the CAP Cancer Checklists data items to NAACCR data items prior to distribution to the public. Provide ongoing development and support for Pathology Informatics for Cancer Registries based upon a set of priority lists. Provide subject matter expertise in population-based cancer registry operations in the areas of data flow, data collection, data editing, quality control, auditing for accuracy/ completeness, applicable standards for coding and classification, registry software system. Consult on design and implementation of special studies as needed; establish code sets and modifying Pathology Informatics for Cancer Registries products to meet project requirements. Participate in collaborative work with other agencies and organizations to standardized data. Perform special assignments as requested by the customer in addition to ongoing softwarerelated duties. Meet on a regular basis (weekly) to update CDC project team on status of tasks. Collaborate with partners on the College of American Pathologists and the PERT mapping team. Encode or map the CAP Checklist data items to the corresponding NAACCR data items (Collaborative Stage data items are a subset of the NAACCR data items) with conversion rules, as appropriate, using software tools designed by CAP. Participate on meetings and conference calls to address issues related to the encoding of the CAP Cancer Checklists, as needed. Validate coding and mapping work. Manually validate output from DLL conversion tool. KSAs in addition to generic labor category descriptions Ability to work independently and with a team on development projects. Familiarity with the North American Standards for Cancer Registries (NAACCR) data standards. Subject matter expertise in the areas of classification of diseases, cancer staging and treatment, and coding systems and standards, for development of data collection tools for ongoing and special projects, such as the Pathology Informatics for Cancer Registries support tools, and mapping data elements from pathology reports onto cancer registry data elements. Certified as a CTR; knowledge of health applications and software development processes; extensive experience with documenting software functionality development of contextsensitive help, developing materials for and conducting user training, and providing technical support. Exceptionally well-developed analysis and writing skills, including ability to organize complex material, propose solutions, and craft appropriate documents in multiple styles to meet different requirements and audiences.
