There are also resources for tutors with tips and advice to support them in their role. The next few pages will highlight the different resources provided by NES to help those beginning their VT2. Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring There are 5 modules for this topic. Requirement for VT2 trainees Care Planning tutors Induction requirement for trainees and tutors This resource is excellent for newly qualified pharmacists who need a refresher on care plans. NES provides a webinar by Arlene Shaw – a specialised pharmacist at Tayside, where she highlights the important aspects of creating and completing a care plan through examples. Clinical governance There are a variety of clinical governance resources several of which are within this booklet; Audit, Evidence based practice, Patient safety, Risk management, writing in clinical case notes. Writing in Patient’s Clinical Case Notes Clinical trials and research This interactive PDF, contains information about the various stages that pharmacists are involved in when undertaking the management of clinical trial medication. Communicating for success This recording of Wendy Chalmers was developed for a senior pharmacist training day. It provides useful information about communication. Critical Appraisal Medicines Information is a key component within VT2 and the ability to critically appraise research papers is vital. NES provides presentations, MCQs and an assessment on Critical Appraisal skills. These have been split into two parts; the first part discusses the basics of evidence based medicine and the second provides guidance on how to appraise a research paper. ePortfolio – induction requirement for trainees and tutors Induction requirement for trainees and tutors Throughout the stage 2 training, the trainee is expected to build a portfolio demonstrating their learning and provide evidence that they have achieved the required competencies. This is an online ePortfolio which allows the trainees to create action logs, upload pieces of evidence and request feedback from external trainers Trainees can access the many different online NES resources available which are designed to support them through their first few years as a hospital pharmacist. Our resource section contains a webinar called “Introduction to ePortfolio for The Pharmacy Vocational Training Scheme”. This includes: accessing the system, creating evidence logs, using the various forms, linking evidence to the competency framework, storing evidence in the personal library and demonstrates how trainers can provide feedback through the ticketed feedback system. There is also a powerpoint presentation. Evidence Based Practice – that’s what we do Angela Timoney gives an over view of evidence based practice. Induction requirement for tutors FAQs Hints and Tips With all this training available it is sometimes easy to get lost so within the NES resource section there is a page dedicated to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), hints and tips. How to log your CPD for the regulator Ailsa Power highlights how to record your CPD for the GPhC Infections The topic of infection is one of many important topics covered in the VT2 training and is commonly managed in practice. NES provide 3 presentations (webinars) on Health acquired infections (HAI) and Antimicrobial surveillance which was hosted by the University of Strathclyde. The Pharmaceutical care of patients with infections, bugs and drugs Introduction to Leadership Requirement for VT2 trainees . - For trainees There is a one day course – A Taste of Leadership, which runs annually each year in February. The course covers ; working as a member of a team, motivating your team and managing a change. Book on Portal to attend the course. - For trainees and tutors Being a pharmacist requires leadership skills which can be new and even daunting for newly qualified pharmacist. NES has produced this popular webinar delivered by Richard Ellis to help pharmacists develop their leadership skills which are transferable throughout all sectors of pharmacy. Requirement forVT2 trainees . Medical Gases Another competency and component within hospital training relates to understanding medical gases. NES has created a PowerPoint presentation narrated by Lynn Morrison (Regional QA Pharmacist) which highlights the important issues relating to medical gases, as well as a MCQ to test your knowledge. The objectives of this presentation are to help the trainees: to describe the different medical gases found within hospital, understand the design and construction of a medical gas pipeline system (MGPS), have awareness of the system of controls applied to facilitate the safe and secure operation of a MGPS, understand the roles and responsibilities of key personnel involved in medical gases, understand the role of a Quality Controller, have awareness of medical gas testing and to appreciate the role of the EDC pharmacist in an emergency situation. Mindful Prescribing and Polypharmacy Requirement for trainees . Patient safety Patient safety is fundamental for all healthcare professionals so NES has provided a few resources to cover this topic. This includes a PowerPoint presentation and a webinar presented by Alexa Wall (Head of Pharmacy, Monklands) on patient safety. The programme includes Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA), Run Charts, Failure Modes Effective Analysis (FMEA), Significant Event Analysis (SEA) and Driver diagrams. In addition, medicine reconciliation and high risk medicines are discussed. Furthermore, NES also includes Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) interactive modules which were developed by NES and Yellow Card Centre Scotland (Centres for Adverse Drug Reactions to Drugs Scotland).
