Part II: Agroclimatic Zonewise Agricultural/Agro-meteorological Advisories Eastern zone Wheat Barley Sugarcane Animal husbandry Vegetables & Fruits Oil Seeds Pulses Farmers are advised to withhold second irrigation to wheat sown during December as there are chances of rain/ thundershowers in next 2-3 days. Wheat plants affected with flag smut should be rogued out and burnt to reduce the inoculums potential for next year. Spraying for aphid control to use the recommended chemical. Start preparation of fields for spring sugarcane planting. Sugarcane planting can be done from second fortnight of this month. Apply irrigation to autumn planted crop as per need of intercrops and sugarcane. New born calves need special care in cold weather. They are susceptible to Pneumonia and large number of them die due to this disease. Keep them warm by providing clean and dry bedding. Give them Vitamin ‘A’ concentrate 1 ml daily in milk for three days to be repeated after a month. The pea crop may be sprayed with Karathane @ 80 ml/acre or Suflex @ 600 g/acre to control powdery mildew disease. If rust attack is there, spray the crop with Indofil M45 @ 400 g in 200 litres of water. To save the oilseed crops from frost damage, irrigation may be applied. Monitor the crop for the attack of insect pests. The problem of helicoverpa in gram, if any, may be controlled with the help of recommended pesticides. Use sevin/hexasevin 50 WP in lentil for the control of pod borer.
