MORRIS ANIMAL FOUNDATION POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Accounting Manager REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services INTRODUCTION: Morris Animal Foundation is a nonprofit organization that invests in science to advance animal health. The Foundation is a global leader in funding scientific studies for companion animals, horses and wildlife. Since its founding in 1948, Morris Animal Foundation has invested more than $92 million toward 2,300 studies that have led to significant breakthroughs in diagnostics, treatments, preventions and cures for animals worldwide. OVERALL SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager is responsible for utilizing accounting and spreadsheet software to accurately maintain all general ledger accounts, reconcile bank and investment statements, conduct monthly and yearend closing procedures and prepare monthly financial statements. Responsible for coordinating the annual CPA audit and all federal and state financial filings. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Conducts monthly and year-end closing procedures. Prepares monthly departmental revenue and expense budget reports. Includes providing analysis of variances. Reconciles monthly bank & investment statements. Reconciles monthly gift annuities statements. Facilitates contributions to and distributions from MAF investment pool. Allocates monthly investment earnings to appropriate funds. Monitors cash and initiates transfers from investments to keep balances at the appropriate level. Reconciles and journalizes expense allocations Prepares bi-monthly payroll data submission to human resources company and validates accuracy of payroll processing. Administers 403(b) (7) retirement program. Oversees batch reports, posting reports and bank deposits for timeliness and accuracy. Oversees accounts payable processing including coding and resolution of invoice payment concerns. Prepare 1099’s annually. Coordinates preparations and financial statements for the annual CPA audit and federal and state financial filings. Applies for and maintains State Solicitation Licenses for each state and Charitable Gift Annuity registrations as required. Records fixed assets and calculates annual depreciation. Handle additional projects as requested by the Chief Operating Officer. POSITION ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and 3 - 5 year's experience.
