Dear Hillcrest School Parents and Staff,
I am delighted to announce that the Board of Education has appointed Mr. Gregory Sumski to
succeed Ms. O’Connell as Principal of Hillcrest School, effective January 19.
Mr. Sumski was interviewed by a committee of parents, administrators and teachers and selected
for appointment from among an extensive and highly-qualified pool of applicants.
A valued and highly-respected member of the Woodland School faculty since 2006, Mr. Sumski
is an enthusiastic and creative educational leader committed to the success of each child. In
addition to his 10-year history as an exemplary primary school teacher, Mr. Sumski has assisted
with administrative duties as Woodland’s helping teacher since 2010 and served as a teacher and
supervisor in the Morris School District Community School’s Sunrise/Sunset and Summer Plus
programs since 2008. He completed a 300-hour Principal Internship program in 2015.
A 2004 graduate of Rutgers University, Mr. Sumski earned a MA in Education from the College
of St. Elizabeth and NJ School Supervisor and NJ Principal Certifications from Kean University.
He also holds a NJ School Business Administrator Certification from Montclair State University.
I am confident Mr. Sumski will continue to demonstrate the educational vision and leadership for
which he has been recognized throughout his career in the Morris School District and that
Hillcrest School will thrive under his leadership.
Sincerely,
Mackey Pendergrast,
Superintendent of Schools
