Project SEARCH Newsletter – Spring Project SEARCH Graduation is near! The 2014-15 school year is coming to a close. Eight interns with Project SEARCH, a program for young adults with disabilities, gained valuable work experience over the past year at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center. From transporting patients in Cardiovascular Services to stocking medicines in the Pharmacy and selling coffee from the Healing Grounds mobile coffee cart, these students learned that there are many ways to serve the public in a community hospital. Interns worked in 12 different departments this year! We have enjoyed assisting your departments and look forward to working with you again in the fall when 10 new interns will be ready to go! Patricia was recently hired by UH Parma as a Nutrition Assistant after completing her 2nd internship in Dietary Services. Her first rotation was in the Cardiovascular Services Department where she learned how to transport patients. Patricia is thrilled to be working at UH, and hopes to get as many hours as possible! Patricia fondly recalls Chipotle lunches and good times she had in the Cardiovascular Department. This summer she would like to visit her brother in New Mexico. Riley worked in Central Services, Medical Records, and Materials Management this year. She is in the process of looking for a job in an area where she can use her artistic skills. Offers by Central Services staff to enjoy coffee and snacks in the break room will be a lasting memory of her year at UH Parma. Riley would like to go to Florida or Put-In-Bay this summer. Theresa spent time in Environmental Services, Nursing Divisions 3 & 6, Healing Grounds and the Pharmacy this year where she learned many valuable skills that will assist her in getting a job in the retail or housekeeping industry. Theresa had a great time during Pharmacy week with co-workers when they were treated to daily sweets and a Panera lunch. This summer she plans to bowl, see movies, and travel with her family. Stefanie interned in Human Resources, Pharmacy, Materials Management, and Security this year. She is pursuing a job in the retail industry, and is currently working evenings as a part-time cleaner at St. Albert the Great Church. Stefanie recalls good times in the Pharmacy when she would talk with Linda about music, pets, friends and jobs. Stefanie would like to find a full-time job working with animals when she graduates. Brad worked in the Dietary Department, Healing Grounds and Medical Records this year. He is excited about getting a job in the food service business when he finishes Project SEARCH. Brad is looking forward to playing the guitar and attending Indians games this summer. He recalls a time in Healing Grounds when he received a large chocolate chip cookie from Debbie for selling nearly 30 coffees and an assortment of sweets to staff, patients and families. Tiffany completed rotations at Healing Grounds Coffee, Cardiovascular Services, Environmental Services, and Nursing Division 3 & 6 this year. Her hard work and dedication paid off as she was just hired as a Sales Associate at the Learning Express in Strongsville! She can’t wait to start! This summer Tiffany would love to go to Disney World and Cedar Point. She reminisced about times in Cardiovascular Services when appreciative patients would thank her for getting warm blankets. It made her feel great! Meagan worked in the Nursing Division – Floors 3 & 6, Central Services, and Medical Records. She is interested in working with animals or housekeeping when she finishes Project SEARCH. At the conclusion of her rotation in the Nursing Division she was delighted to receive a journal, pen and sweets as thanks for her hard work in the department. Harold rotated through Healing Grounds, Medical Records, Human Resources and Central Services this year. He enjoyed all of his rotations and the wonderful people he met at UH Parma Medical Center. Harold would like to work in a movie theater or library when he graduates, but is willing to try anything! Join Us!
