Tutor Doctor of Denver Foothills was founded by a husband and wife team. With two young children at
home and being relatively new to the Denver area, the wife was looking for something that would let
her get involved in their community, supplement their income, and spend as much time as possible with
their family. Tutor Doctor helped them meet all of these goals. After a slow start, the business has
really taken off in the last two years, with a sizeable stable of tutors and many repeat and active
customers. Now, with both of their children in school, the wife is looking to be more involved in the day
to day activities at their school and has been offered a position that would allow her to be directly

Running a Tutor Doctor franchise
As a home-based business, Tutor Doctor allows you the flexibility to work when you want. You are in
charge of how many students you want to service and the number of tutors that you want to use.
Marketing – most marketing is done through pay-per-click campaigns through search engines. Parents
searching for tutors utilize Google or other search engines, and we pay for our website to come out near
the top. We also attend festivals or other events where we can set up a table and talk to potential
customers.
Hiring Tutors – We recruit and hire our own tutors. We utilize Craigslist ads, online ads, and e-mail
blasts to identify potential tutors, and then meet with them to determine if they are a fit for our model.
Tutors are only paid for the hours they work, and they can be as busy or as slow as they would like.
Flexibility is a key with our tutors as they need to work around the student’s schedule and provide
instruction in the student’s home.
Signing up Customers – Free consultations are done in the customer’s home, with the child present. We
try to get a feel for the student, their habits, where they are struggling, and determine the type of tutor
that would best fit their needs. Once the need is identified, we discuss timing and frequency of tutoring
sessions and package offerings. Payment is made at the time of enrollment or a payment plan can be
set up.
Back-office activities – Tutor Doctor home office provides a cloud-based customer relationship
management solution. All tutors and customers are loaded into the software, and you match up the
tutors with each customer. From here you are able to track tutoring sessions, follow-up activities,
