Mock SAE Scenario (Ms. America)
Ms. America was a little bit nervous. Today is the first day of school and it’s her first year at
AOK School. She is very happy to be the agriculture teacher at AOK and is looking forward to
her freshmen class. She had a wonderful experience while student teaching and got along well
with the younger students. Ms. America was very fortunate to have a strong FFA experience
herself, so she is confident she can get students involved and motivated to take advantage of all
aspects of the agricultural education program.
AOK is a rural community; oil and gas companies provide a lot of the employment opportunities
for residents. In terms of agriculture production; wheat, canola and native pasture are prevalent.
There are a few cow-calf operations and one commercial swine facility in the area.
Agribusinesses in the community include a COOP, vet clinic and tractor dealership. The
community is in proximity to a community college and university research station.
Ms. America’s freshmen class consists of 15 students, 12 are freshmen and 3 are sophomores.
One of Ms. America’s students works for the commercial swine facility after school. This
student’s responsibility includes cleaning pens, applying vaccinations, and feeding regularly. The
student earns $10.50 an hour and on average works 15 hours a week for the company.
Ms. America realizes the opportunity that is available for her students in the community to apply
for proficiency awards and scholarships. She wants her program to be well balanced and for
students to have opportunities to participate in supervised agricultural experiences.
