Community THE KEMP PRIZE For excellence in Year 13 Given in honour of the Mayor of Tawa 1956-1980 THE LORD COBHAM SCHOLARSHIP For excellence in Year 13 Given in honour of the New Zealand Governor General who opened the College in 1961 THE PRINCIPAL’S PRIZE Awarded to THE PROXIME ACCESSIT TO THE DUX 2014 THE A S MACKIE SCHOLARSHIP Given in honour of the foundation Principal to the DUX OF TAWA COLLEGE 2014 TAWA COLLEGE ACADEMIC PRIZEGIVING 2014 HISTORY OF CUPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS BOYLE CUP Pauline Boyle was Head of Mathematics at Tawa College from 1991 until 2004 and presented this cup upon her retirement. BURNETT AWARD FOR CITIZENSHIP This award was presented by the parents of Stephen Burnett, Head Boy in 1977. GLENYS CHIARONI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship commemorates the work of one of our staff members who died in May 2001. She taught both Music and Art at the college and it is in her memory that her friends and family have established a substantial trust fund, used to generate a scholarship to assist the tertiary study in Music or Art of one or more of our senior students. LEANNE DIXON CUP Leanne Dixon was a student at Tawa College in the 1970’s. She died of leukaemia in her late teens and her family presented this cup in her memory. Her passion was History. GILL CUP Mr Gill taught Geography at Tawa College for four years in the late 1960’s. PAUL HAVILL MEMORIAL CUP Paul Havill was a Physics teacher and Dean at Tawa College from 1980 until his death in 2005. His family has presented this cup in his memory. BRUCE HONORE MEMORIAL CUP Bruce Honore was a student at Tawa College in the 1970’s. He went on to become a Doctor, but was tragically killed in a car accident when he was in his early 20’s. His family presented this Chemistry Cup in his memory. LISA McKINLAY MEMORIAL AWARD Lisa McKinlay was a student at Tawa College in the 1980’s. She was diagnosed with leukaemia and died in her 6th form year. She was a selfless young woman who embraced life to the full. This award is given in her memory, for achievement under difficulty. MOAVENI FAMILY AWARD The Moaveni brothers attended Tawa College in the early 1990’s and both were outstanding scholars. They went on and excelled in the field of medicine. This award is given by their parents to the top achieving student over all three science subjects. NICHOLSON CUP Lina Nicholson taught Classical Studies at Tawa College from 2002 until 2006. BEV PUDSEY MEMORIAL CUP Bev Pudsey was a Commerce teacher at Tawa College in the 1990’s and into the 2000’s. This cup was presented by her family after her death in 2007. JOCK SHIELDS ART CUP Jock Shields was an Art teacher at Tawa College for a total of 20 years from the late 1960’s through to 1990.
