Welcome to Learning Resources at North Lindsey College WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU: A friendly, relaxed environment in which to study and research. The following are libraries and Open Access centre: just some of the services we offer in our FE and HE 34 computers available in Open Access, 8 laptops are available in the FE library, 10 computers and 8 laptops are available in the HE library. Dedicated OPAC library catalogue computers in both FE and HE libraries to help you find your resources. Wireless internet access available in both libraries. Own laptops may be used subject to learners holding a valid PAT testing certificate, available from the college IT department at a cost of £5 per year. Black and white photocopier in the HE library, 5p per A4 copy, 10p for A3. High quality laser printing. Black and white printing is free for the first 10 pages, thereafter 2p per sheet will be charged. Colour printing charged at 5p per page. Binding service available at £1 per booklet and A4 laminating service available at 50p per sheet. Over 10,500 journals available through our e-resource package, both on and off campus. Also incorporates over 4,000 e- books and thousands of abstracts and journal articles. NLCtube is the college’s fantastic new resource, similar to YouTube, which enables learners and tutors to view educational programmes in an online format through the college’s Moodle system. Also available both on and off campus. Comprehensive DVD library, with regular new additions to stock. We also offer viewing facilities and loan service. Substantial local history collection, with many archived study packs available on request. Comfortable surroundings and workspaces for study and quiet group work with facilities for independent study in the Quiet Room, ideal for those wishing to work uninterrupted. Meeting rooms are available in both libraries, enabling group work without disturbing other learners. The HE meeting room is equipped with a digital projector, ideal for learner presentations and group discussions. We stock over 60 hard copy periodicals and journals which are archived for at least 2 years. Particular copies are archived indefinitely. Excellent collection of latest edition and current title books. New books are purchased and added to stock on a monthly basis, and the New Additions to stock list is available in the HE library in hard copy, and also via Moodle. Daily newspapers are available for use within the Learning Resources centre. 6 month newspaper archives available upon request. Assorted helpsheets are available on IT, library resources and other college information throughout all service areas. Learning Resources promotes the learner experience by encouraging participation in promotions such as the 6 Book Challenge, which is a national prize offering reading incentive. Experienced, friendly staff available throughout all service points to advise on general enquiries, computer troubleshooting, specialised requests, library inductions and Harvard referencing What we ask from you: Please return loan items on time. Loan periods are 3 weeks for books, 2 days for short loan books (identified by a blue spine sticker) and 1 week for DVDs. Fines for exceeding loan periods are 20p per book per day, 50p per day for short loans and 50p per day for DVDs. You may renew books (except short loans) by any of these methods: In person – at any library service point. By email – library@northlindsey.ac.uk By phone – 01724 294164/295385 You are likely to be denied access to books and computers if fines accrue and are left unpaid. Books out in your name are your responsibility. Do not lend them to other learners. If the book is lost or damaged, you will be charged replacement costs. Please produce your learner ID card every time you visit the centre, and upon request. You may be refused access to facilities without your card. Books cannot be issued without your learner ID card. Please behave with consideration towards other library users. Mobile phones must be on silent when entering the Learning Resource Centre. Please ensure noise is kept to a minimum. The HE library is for quiet study only. Eating is not permitted within the libraries – bottled drinks and lidded cups are permitted if care is taken around the computers.
