The minutes of the March 5, 2012 regular meeting were read by Kim Harris, City Clerk. Motion was made by Libby Ezelle to adopt the minutes as corrected. Donna Downs made the second. Motion carried by unanimous consent of the council members by a show of hands vote. Steven Neighbors /Public Safety & Recreation Advisory Group: No report. NAY Patsy Moore/Parks & Beautification Advisory Group: Patsy Moore reported that everything was great at the walking trail and that we are still in the process of spraying the trees for pine beetles. Libby Ezelle /Annexation & Zoning Advisory Group: No report. Gene Middlebrooks /Public Relations & History Advisory Group: No report. Donna Downs/Business & Community Development Advisory Group: Donna Downs reports that she spoke to some of the churches this past week and the participation for the clean-up project was overwhelming. Ms. Downs stated that she was not surprised at this kind of participation due to the fact that Valley Grande has always worked together. Johnny Robinson has asked I.P. to donate vest, and gloves; also Zeiglers will donate the hot dogs. Ms. Downs stated that a meeting will be held Tuesday March 22, 2012 at 6:00p.m for the team captains. Ms. Downs will assign areas that need the most attention and the supplies for the cleanup will be distributed. Sonya Ross will be at City Hall Saturday morning for participants who need to schedule a pickup. Mayor Lee and Larry Hobson will have a trailer ready and will be picking up trash until 11:45a.m. Donna Downs stated that this is road garbage only, not household garbage. Old Business: None New Business: Frank Dobson, with the Alabama Tombigbee Commission, and Ray Hogg were unable to attend the council meeting due to a medical issue. Mayor Lee stated that they have rescheduled and plan to attend the next meeting on April 2, 2012. Mr. Dobson and Mr. Hogg will most likely attend the council meetings through late May to discuss the details of the grant process. Mayor Lee gave an overview of the plans that will take place through the process in receiving the CDBG grant. Ms. Sheryl Smedley presented the council with the 2011 annual report from the Chamber of Commerce and gave details of the projects that have been going on since the beginning of the year 2012. Ms. Smedley also presented a monthly newsletter and a public relations membership directory from the Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Lee presented the council with Resolution #2012-89 that will authorize Kwik Stop located at 3037 Citizens Parkway, to pursue the issuance of a license for an off premises retail beer and retail table wine license. Mr. Gene Middlebrooks made a motion to place Resolution #2012-89 on 1st reading. Libby Ezelle made the second. Motion carried by unanimous consent of the council by a show of hands vote. Mayors Report: Mayor Tom Lee updated the council on the storm shelter. Mayor Lee had a meeting with Angie Yeargan, owner and manager of Yeargan Construction, who has had experience with FEMA. Mr. Lee and Ms. Yeargan had a lengthy discussion about the different possibilities on individual family shelters. There being no further business to come before the council, a motion was made by Donna Downs to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Libby Ezelle. The motion was carried by unanimous consent of the council members. The meeting was adjourned at 6:32 PM.
