Background information:
The Low Carbon Technology Partnerships initiative (LCTPi) is a unique program that brings together
companies and partners to accelerate the development of low-carbon technology solutions that can help
limit global warming to below the 2°C ceiling.
All around the world, forward-thinking companies recognize the immense potential of LCTPi to deliver lowcarbon solutions and speed the transition to a low carbon economy.
Endorsed by the French Presidency of COP21 as part of the Lima-Paris Action Agenda, LCTPi is led by the
WBCSD in partnership with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and International
Energy Agency (IEA).
Why it’s unique: Bringing together over 130 global businesses with other partners to work collaboratively
on the climate challenge, no other business led initiative has the size, scale and potential impact of LCTPi.
As well as being good for the environment and for society, ambitious climate action is also the biggest
business opportunity for the foreseeable future.
How it works: LCTPi brings companies and partners together to collaborate on developing and scaling up
low-carbon technology. The initiative analyses barriers and identifies solutions, financial requirements,
policies and PPP (public-private partnership) opportunities.

Building impact through ambitious action

(LCTPi). Led by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in partnership with
the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, LCTPi is one
of the flagship initiatives of COP21. It aims to scale up the development and deployment of low carbon
technologies by bringing concrete action plans and policy asks to climate negotiations.
The time has come to take decisive action to meet the urgency of the climate challenge. This requires us
to transform our energy, industry, agriculture and forestry systems to reverse the rise in greenhouse gas
emissions and achieve a net zero emissions society in the second half of the century. This requires a
massive collaborative effort and joint ambition by both business and governments backed by concrete
actions on the ground.
