Arizona Public Interest Research Group
AZPIRG is the state branch of a national consumer advocacy firm. Current campaigns
focus on high speed rail between PHX and TUC, overturning the Citizens United ruling, ending
junk food subsidies, and ensuring financial transparency in Arizona State Government. Past
campaigns have been focused on textbook affordability, home energy audits, and halting
uranium mining near the Grand Canyon watershed. Details for internships are unclear, though
there is an inquiry form online. PIRG also has a student branch focused on campus advocacy.
Details can be found here.
Victory Congressional Internship/Fellowship
For students who wish to spend a semester—or year, in the case of the fellowship—in
Washington, DC working with an LGBTQ-friendly member of Congress, while gaining valuable
leadership skills and working on a service project, the Gay and Lesbian Victory Institute’s Victory
Congressional Internship would be a golden opportunity. There are spring, summer, and fall
semester opportunities available. Details: unlike many—if not all—congressional internships,
the Victory internship is all expense paid, including housing and a living allowance, making it
accessible to students typically marginalized from such opportunities due to a lack of resources.
The program also carries full academic credit and includes registration and accommodations for
the International LGBT Leadership Conference. Read more on the internship.
The Victory Congressional Fellowship places students in a yearlong post in the office of a
co-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus, supporting the Executive Director. The provided stipend is
$28k for the year plus a monthly healthcare reimbursement of $400/month. Participants must
hold a 3.0 GPA and be over 21 before day of arrival. Information can be found here.
