ARTISTS RESIDENCIES | HARRINGTON STUDIOS | ROSCOMMON The aim of Harrington Studios is to support contemporary, multi-disciplinary arts practices. Located in the grounds of the historically significant King House, the studio’s mission is to encourage a curiousity for the surrounding region and environment while fostering relationships between residents and the wider artistic community, bringing critically engaging contemporary practices to the broader public. About King House King House is a magnificently restored Georgian Mansion located in Boyle, County Roscommon. It was built in the early 1700’s for Sir Henry King, whose family was one of the most powerful and wealthy in Ireland. After its first life as a home, King House was converted into a military barracks in the 19th century for the famous Connaught Rangers regiment. At the end of Civil War in 1923 the barracks passed into the control of the newly formed Irish Free State Army. Following many years as a merchant’s store, King House was saved from demolition in the late 1980s and restored to its former Georgian style by Roscommon County Council. It now houses significant collections and exhibitions from the Connacht Rangers and the King Family. It is also home to the Boyle Civic Art Collection and hosts the annual Boyle Arts Festival visual art exhibition. It is also an offsite venue for Roscommon Arts Centre who present contemporary art exhibitions and in 2015 will host solo shows by visual artists Christine Mackey and Maria McKinney.
