You are invited to consign to the Wisconsin Southdown Stars Sale; a sale designed to meet the needs of today’s
progressive Southdown consignor, bidder and buyer. Our sale is now in its third year. Here’s what our sale has to

Bidders and buyers of all types and kinds – we attract buyers looking for national show quality show sheep as
well as local youth looking for their first Southdown to take to the county fair. In 2012, sheep sold to buyers in
Maine, California, Indiana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri and
Wisconsin.
We’re efficient with your time – the entire event is conducted in one day – from 10-1.
NO state or other fees or percentages deducted from your profits!
We work hard to market your consignments! We conduct an extensive online and direct mail advertising
campaign that kicked off the second week in January and will continue up until sale day.
Industry leading online “flip” picture catalog with pictures of all lots.
FAST turnaround of consignor checks; the last two years, consignors had their checks within 10 business days
of the sale!

Two $250 Jackpot Awards:
At this sale, juniors who purchase ewe lambs nominated for the 2013 ASBA futurity, are
eligible to win one of two $250 cash awards in addition to the ASBA jackpot. The two
ewes earning the most points in the final ASBA results, either fall lambs or ewe lambs, will
determine the two winners. This award is in addition to any money awarded by the ASBA. In the
case of a tie, the jackpot will be split evenly between or among the winners. Cash award will be
paid within 30 days after the North American International Livestock Exposition.

March 15th, 2013. A RedBarn Branding representative will contact you after your entries are
received to collect from you pictures of your lots, your logo, etc. for the online color catalog.

$25/lot. $20/lot if you are a member of the Wisconsin Southdown Association.

Day of Sale:


Bring 2 copies of veterinarian approved and signed health papers for each consignment.
Sheep may be moved in as early as 6:00 AM and must be in their assigned pens no later than 10:00 AM on
Sale Day. If you need to arrive on Friday, we encourage you to pen in your trailer; out of state consignors
needing different accommodate should contact sale management to make other arrangements.

University of Wisconsin Public Events Building, N695 Hopkins Road, Arlington, WI (approx. 10
miles North-east of I94 Madison exits). Entire event is located in a heated, climate controlled
building. There are no sheep washing facilities on the grounds. Breakfast/Lunch stand available in
the building.
Penning:
Sheep are penned in 5X8 new Ketchum pens. Consignors must provide their own bedding.
Consignors encouraged to bring a show rail and farm display/sign to showcase their consignments
and farm. Penning will be assigned by Sponsor. If you have special penning requests, please let us
know on the entry form.
Arrival:
6:00 AM - 10:00 AM – sheep in place
10:00 AM – educational sessions on (1) Fitting Southdowns by Chris, Kent and Dan Spilde, (2)
ASBA national news update by ASBA President, Barbara Bishop, (3) genetic testing update, (4)
Hands-on Youth session focused on meat cuts and retail ID.
11:00 AM – Lunch and viewing of the sale lots
12:00 AM –Sale and presentation of “Starter Ewe Lamb” award winners

dialing into the sale and bidding will be provided on the Wisconsin Southdown
web page two weeks before the sale or you can call one of the sale committee

The “Real Time” teleconference bidding line was a huge success last year! 40 callers participated
on this line during our sale in 2012 and 30% of all lots were sold through this method of bidding!
All bidders must register for a buyer number and be pre-approved to bid before the sale begins.
Drivers license or other form of personal identification required for registration.
Payment:
Cash or check. Onsite sale day buyers must present payment prior to animals leaving the facilities.
Offsite buyers, payment is expected within 5 business days of the date of the sale; 15% fee
assessed for late payment. $50 fee will be charged for checks that are insufficient funds.
Registration papers will not be released until the sale price and all fees have been paid in full.
Sale Catalog:


Sale catalog with pictures of all lots available online at www.wisconsinsouthdowns.com by
April 8 and in print day of sale.
Catalogs will be emailed as requested and sent to a sheep industry email list of
approximately 600+ potential buyers the week of April 9.
Commission: 10% of the gross sale price of the animal.
Health
Papers:
Veterinarian Approved Health Certificates (two (2) copies; good for 30 days) must be presented to
Sale Management for every lot entered in the sale and must be listed separately on the certificate.
A Federal Scrapie ID Tag must be in each animal's ear before arrival at the sale site. This applies to
all animals in all categories. BOTH private flock tag and complete scrapie tag numbers for each
lot. Multiple entries may be on the same health paper, but you will need to bring enough
photocopies to have 2 copies for each animal.
Registration
Papers:
All breeding animals sold must have an American Southdown Breeders Association approved
registration paper. Registration papers will be transferred and forwarded to the buyers after
payment is received. Cost of transfers will be deducted from consignor settlement checks. Please
send in your applications for registry now in order to get them back in time for the sale.
Futurity:
Fees for nominated ASBA futurity ewe lambs, including the fall ewe lamb contest, will be deducted

DNA Test
Results:
1. This sale will follow the American Southdown Association policy that all animals consigned and
sold must be warranted by the seller as either genotype QR or RR (at Codon 171) and NN, a noncarrier of hereditary chondrodysplasia (spider syndrome). Any registered Southdown animal can
be sold under these conditions. DNA test results are not required for animals whereby genotypes
are immediately obvious based solely on their own pedigree and warranted and represented as
such by the consignor. Sale Sponsor assumes NO liability, legal or otherwise, expressed or implied
as it relates to genomic (DNA) derived information.
2. We strongly encourage all consignors to know and advertise the DNA status of their entries as it
relates to the “Hairy Lamb Syndrome” or Ectodermal Dysplasia. We have contacted Dr. Beaver at
the University of Illinois. His office will give high priority to samples designated as “Results
Required for Sale”. His office is ideally seeking large sample sizes for efficiency sake. Please send
in your samples now!!!
Transportation
After Sale:
Buyer is responsible for arranging transportation of the animal after the sale. Sale management
will assist offsite buyers in making transportation arrangements but will not be responsible for
providing transportation of the purchase to the new owner.
