Ingest Live Off-Air Broadcast into IPTV Networks
SAS is now offering an integrated solution to capture and ingest live Free-to-Air
broadcast channels. This standards compliant solution enables the reception,
grooming, and IP based transmission of live content into IPTV networks.
The solution is able to support:
 Terrestrial Broadcast – Off-Air ATSC or DVB-T UHF/VHF
 CABLE – QAM based or DVB-C
 Satellite – DVB-S, L,C,& Ku
The core of the system consists of an integrated 1RU multi-tuner that is
integrated with an internal DVB processor. This allows either 4 or 8 RF inputs to
be individually tuned to the station or channel of choice. In today’s digital
delivery systems, the channels usually contain multiple programs. The internal
DVB processor enables the ability to cherry pick the programs of choice. Multiple
programs can be selected from each tuner input.
Each program selected is then assigned a unique IP output address for direct
insertion to the IPTV network. Up to 64 programs can be assigned in the 4 tuner
version and 128 programs can be assigned in the 8 tuner configuration.
The system does not transcode or re-encode so the program remains at its 1st
generation quality.
Management of the tuner / multiplexer is through a web browser interface.
Redundant AC power is also a feature it supports.
For an integrated solution, SAS offers low noise RF amplifiers, RF splitters, and
low loss coax cables. SAS has also included provisioning of the system to
enable easy and quick deployment into your network.
Previous systems offered in the industry typically decoded the video to baseband
before being re-encoded to an IP stream. This approach is significantly more
expensive compared to the SAS integrated solution. This approach also
degraded the video quality as it became second generation.
