Professional Development Day – Friday, November 27th
Friday, November 27th is a district wide professional development day. A reminder that school
will not be in session.
Pick Up Safety
A reminder to all families to be safe and respectful when picking up their children. We ask that
all parents and families observe all traffic rules and signs. At the end of the day, the staff
parking lot areas are often unsafe.
Parents/guardians are reminded to NOT:

Drive through the staff parking lots

park or double park in the staff parking lots

wait for your child in your car in the staff parking lots

block the entrance and exit routes of the staff parking lots
Report Card Information – New K and Grade 4 reports
Report cards will be sent home with all students on Friday, December 4th. First term reports will
provide students and families with an outline of the first term and will indicate student
progress. This year our Kindergarten and grade 4 students will receive a new document
outlining student learning while the other grades will receive the same report card format as
we have previously used.
The Kindergarten communicating student learning document will include information in the
following areas: self and identity, literacy, language and story, numeracy and problem solving,
community and the natural world, artistic and creative expression, body awareness and
movement, supporting student learning, and student reflections.
The grade four report card has also been updated to focus on the communication of student
learning. Instead of letter grades, students and families will receive information through a
teacher reflection, demonstrations of core and curricular competencies, as well as information
on ways to support and a student reflection section.
All other grades will receive report cards which will include an opening comment as well as
dedicated areas for Behavior, Attitude and Social Responsibility, Areas of Further Development,
Ways to Support Student and detailed explanations/performance indicators of each of the
subject areas.
No matter which document you are receiving, parents are encouraged to carefully read through
each of the sections. It also provides a basis for effective two way communication between
home and school.
If you have any questions about the new report format or require further clarification about
your child’s progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
