2014 Craft Research Fund – Travel Grant THE MISSION of the Craft Research Fund is to advance, expand and support research about craft in the United States. Travel Grants encourage the dissemination of craft-based research by providing financial aid to scholars invited to present new research on a craft-specific topic at any organized scholarly conference. GOALS To support innovative research on critical issues in craft theory and history To explore the inter-relationship among craft, art, design and contemporary culture To foster new cross-disciplinary approaches to scholarship in the craft field in the United States To advance investigation of neglected questions on craft history and criticism in the United States DEADLINE The deadline for 2014 Travel Grant applications is 5 pm, December 19, 2014. Grantees will be notified in January 2015. Starting in 2015 Travel Grant applications will be accepted year-round, with two awarding cycles. The first cycle will close at 5pm, April 30, 2015 and grantees will be notified in May 2015. The second cycle will close at 5pm, October 30, 2015 and grantees will be notified in November 2015. GRANT PROGRAM OVERVIEW Grants of up to $500 will be awarded to support travel expenses to present a craft-focused paper at any scholarly conference. ELIGIBILITY Proposals are welcome from academic researchers and independent scholars. The Craft Research Fund Travel Grant should be used towards travel and accommodation expenses only; funds should not be used as an honorarium, to conduct research, or to cover conference fees. Applicants must hold a MA/Pending MA in Art History, History of Design, History of Decorative Arts, other relevant discipline, or hold equivalent professional experience. Applicants must have a United States social security number for tax purposes. Applicants may apply for and receive up to one CRF Travel Grant per calendar year. Examples of paper topics might include: Research addressing work by historically important or contemporary craft artist/s Presenting a new understanding of the relationship between hand-made production and digital technologies Contributions to the history of the Studio Craft movement Placing American Craft in a global context Examples of organized scholarly conferences might include: College Art Association Conference Design History Society Conference American Studies Association Conference Annual Material Culture Symposium for Emerging Scholars, University of Delaware Preference will be given to papers accepted through a peer-reviewed jurying process CRITERIA Proof of invitation to speak at a scholarly conference is required.
