Craft Sheet 1 Paris and Central France THE EIFFEL TOWER Copy the pattern on the next page onto a heavy piece of gray or rust-colored craft paper. Cut out both towers. Copy the Eiffel Tower’s iron structure On the reverse side of the cut-out patterns. Cut a 1 millimeter-deep slit along the line and slide one tower into the other at right angles. The Eiffel Tower will stand upright. A French paper flag stuck on a match can be added by gluing it to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Craft Sheet 2 Northeast France The fir tree Copy the pattern on the following page on a piece of heavy bright green or dark green craft paper. Cut along the heavy black lines. Fold the paper along dotted line B by matching line A behind line C. Then fold the paper along line C by matching line D behind line B. Cut out notches and the base of the fir tree. Caution: along line D, cut out notches but leave flaps to be used to glue tree together. Unfold and stand fir tree like a pyramid, fold flaps towards inside and glue. The fir tree can remain plain or be decorated to look like a Christmas tree. Note: “encoches” is the French word for “notches” Craft Sheet 3 Southeast France MIMOSA FLOWER Cut 2 cardboard disks. Make a hole in the middle. Using yellow wool, cover disks until the central hole is filled. Gently separate the 2 disks by inserting scissors between them, then cut the loops. Tighten the bundle securely and remove cardboard disks. Craft Sheet 4 Southwest France SURF BOARD Trace surfboard pattern on heavy craft paper. Cut out and paint with a variety of bright colorful patterns. For surfboard base: use waves to make an easel. Trace pattern of waves on ocean blue heavy craft paper. Cut waves above folding line (ligne de pliure). Cut slit between waves to insert surf board. . Craft Sheet 5 Northwest France THE COW Trace pattern on heavy white craft paper. Color using 3 colors: o pink for the cow’s muzzle and teats, o gray or brown for small horns, o black to draw spots on cow’s body at random. Then cut out, fold along the folding line (pliure = folding line) in the middle and place cow in a pretty green pasture. Craft Sheet 6 Overseas France The Island Island: Fill a small plate or the bottom of a cut plastic bottle with sand. Palm tree: a 2 inch stick will form the tree trunk. To make the leaves, take a strip of green paper 3 ¼ inches wide and 12 inches long. Fold paper in ¾ inch pleats. Cut out leaf shapes down to ½ inch from paper strip base. Cut shape only, leaving it attached at ½ inch from base of strip. Unfold and wrap base of paper strip to top of stick. Attach to stick with adhesive tape and gently spread and shape leaves. Insert palm tree into sand and place sea shells around it
