Using walking surfaces around office areas 1. Slips, Trips, Falls 1. Ensure that aisles are correctly established and clear, free of trip hazards. No cords/wires stretched across aisles. Entrance mats are available and used for wet weather. Spills are cleaned up immediately. Floors remain dry. Carpets/rugs are secure. 2. Standing for long periods of time 2. Leg/knee/back injuries 2. Follow good health physiology practices: Do not lock knees, exercise good posture, change stance, and move back and forth. Stretch, exercise, maintain appropriate body weight, and take micro breaks. 3. Using bookcases, shelves and cabinets 3. Injuries from falling materials, tipping book shelves, open drawers. 3. Ensure that shelves are not overloaded. Ensure heavy storage shelves, storage files, and bookcases are secured to the wall or floor. Open only one drawer at a time. 4. Using office equipment 4a. Cuts, sprains, strains and injuries caused by personnel tripping and falling. 4a. Ensure chairs are in good mechanical condition. Fans are guarded and secured. Keep paper cutter blades down and secured when not in use. Keep loose hanging badges, clothes, jewelry, and hair items away from point of operation of paper shredder.
