Dear Parents, We have redesigned the schedule. We heard your feedback and went back to the table and reevaluated our program. We staffed very heavily, probably too heavy on the first design. We also changed actual student schedules which allowed fewer staff. We still have less than a 15:1 ratio. With the complexity of our 1st schedule we had an 8:1 ratio. That was too low and made fees too high. Kenner Discovery Heath Sciences Academy is excited to offer Early Owl Care and Owl Aftercare daily for our Swamp Owls in grades Pre-Kindergarten – 6th grade. We are looking forward to serving the families in our community with an educational, structured, safe environment that is also loads of fun! In KDHSA fashion, our program is designed to offer a variety of activities that both enhance and enrich the lives of our students, promoting their academic and personal success. Our OWL staff will include KDHSA teachers and co-teachers, professional club sponsors, high school students, and staff hired beyond the school walls. Early Owl Care: 7:00am until 7:45am Monday-Friday Offers a calm start to your child’s day. Children will be encouraged to eat breakfast during this time, read quietly, finish up homework, or quietly play a board game with a friend. Early Owls will be dismissed to the blacktop area at 7:45am. Owl Aftercare: 3:30pm – 6:00 pm sharp – 1st-6th 3:30 - Students will report directly to the cafeteria 3:30-4:00 – We will provide a healthy snack time and time to socialize with friends. 4:00- 5:00 - Students will engage in a variety of clubs, enrichment activities, and recreational time. (A list of potential clubs is listed later in this letter.) Clubs and enrichments will run 2 days a week: Monday-Wednesday and Tuesday-Thursday. Fridays will include additional recreational time and some special events. 5:00-6:00 Students will report to cafeteria for homework helpers club. Students will start their homework while being supervised by OWL staff. Owl Aftercare: 3:30pm – 6:00 pm sharp – PreK/K Students will remain in a PreK/K classroom, have a healthy snack, and participate in age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities. While PreK/K won’t be in clubs, they will be in groups participating in age appropriate creative and enriching activities. 5:30-6:00 – PreK/K will slowly migrate into the cafeteria as space allows. PreK will pay a reduced rate due to their tuition fees. Whenever possible, we encourage our PreK families to pick up their students at the end of the instructional day as they are usually worn out. The KDHSA Early Owl and Owl Aftercare program philosophy is that each child deserves the love and respect that will foster self-esteem, independence, self-worth, and success. The program provides for all aspects of child development: physical, intellectual, social, and emotional. Your child’s development is fostered through his/her participation in a planned program of instruction, enrichment, and social 1 interaction. This is not a baby-sitting service; it is much more than baby-sitting. Our goal is to provide an environment that is enjoyable, enriching, organized, and safe. Fees: Fees are monthly and include the healthy snack, enrichments, clubs, and homework helpers club. They do not include cost of uniforms (Girl Scouts), team competitions registration fees (chess or lego league), and transportation to team competitions. We understand that some schools have lower fees for a traditional after care program. Ours is one which includes snack, club fees, and quality homework help. Thank you for your understanding.
