Dear UNTBAN Members and other Alumni:
Homecoming 2014 is here once again!!!!
I am reminded ,as always, that the University of North Texas community extends far beyond the geographic
boundaries of the campus and this region. Last year Homecoming was a special time to catch up with old
friends and come back to see what’s new on campus. This year will not be any different.
I am pleased to share with you some of the highlights of the past year, and our plans for an exciting future:
 Continued to established and build out the organizational infrastructure required for any university
affiliated organization.
 In March of this year BAN members participated in a panel discussion with the Black Graduate
Student Association (BGSA), Black Student Union (BSU), and the Multicultural Center for a
discussion on professional networking and tips on overcoming challenges and issues in the
workplace.
 Continue to make progress in cultivating strategic partnerships. We have accomplished this by
meeting and engaging in continued dialogue with many of the departments at UNT in 2014. I am
proud that our growing reputation is making BAN a choice organization for strategy development
and dialogue around the University’s efforts to increase the recruitment and retention of Black
students at UNT.
 At this year’s Homecoming and in accordance with the organizations by-laws, we will be electing
new officers that will lead the organization thru Year 2017. Officer’s positions available will be
President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Nominations are open.
I anticipate that these kinds of activities will continue throughout the year and BAN will continue to
provide its members and the students of UNT opportunities to work collaboratively to make UNT an
attractive option and great experience for African American students.
It has truly been a pleasure to serve the BAN membership and UNT over the last two years and I appreciate the
support you have given me and the organization. I hope that you were able to attend Homecoming last year
and had a great time. BAN is looking forward to seeing all of you this year. We ask that you join us again for all
the Homecoming fun and festivities, November 7– 9, 2014.
