You will build and program VEX IQ robots with a team to compete in available VEX IQ competitions during this session. Some required activities include building a robot with team members, programming your team’s robot to complete the Bank Shot challenge, and design a team STEM project. Radio hits, movie and television themes are made so easy, that participants will be playing them after the very first class! The club is a combination of keyboard piano lessons and a music learning workshop, which uses a clever visual method to teach the basics of music reading and piano playing. We've developed lots of learning games and activities designed to teach kids basic music reading skills and playing techniques, in ways that are fun and engaging. We want our students to stay motivated and continue to want to learn to play music, whether they like Macklemore or Beethoven. We will also talk about all things food related like how to read food labels, how sugar affects us and what it means to eat seasonally. Students will be given assignments to complete throughout the week. For example, photographing elements of design - line, texture, shape, pattern, and discovering how lighting affects the result. Students will learn how to edit photographs, create visual stories and thoughtfully organize their images. The end of the last day of class will be an artist reception where each student creatively displays their work for everyone to view. Students are encouraged to bring a digital camera from home for this class. Donations of digital cameras and picture frames gladly accepted. We will focus on the “big 21 basics” of hands, kicks, and stances. Our Instructor, Ms. Restita DeJesus has specialized in teaching martial arts to children and teens since 1982. She holds black belt instructor ranks in Karate, Kajukenbo/Wun Hop Kuen Do, Filipino Martial Arts, Chinese Wushu, and Tai Chi. #teamtalented Grades 3-6 Band Room #238 Oct 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov 6, 13, 20 Fridays 8:15 - 9:15 am $25/8 classes This before school enrichment is for 3-6th graders who would consider themselves theatre enthusiasts. They will be the featured actors of 3 major assemblies throughout the year. The first play will be presented at the Veterans Day assembly and will be military themed. Thespians will be moving at a face pace and will be required to memorize their lines within a week’s time as we will meet only once a week for an hour before school on Friday. It's important that each team member is able to work positively with other teammates. Glee Junior Grades 3-5 Band Room #238 Oct 5 – Dec 11 Blue Days 12:40 – 1:00 pm $25/15 classes Come sing and dance to selected popular music with Ms. Nelson and your fellow owls each Blue Day recess. This 20 minute class will follow the Grade 3-5 lunch and replace outdoor recess for participants every 3rd day of school between October 5 and December 11. Strengthen your voice, get your body moving, and have a blast during this midday choral club. Registration begins Sunday, September 20 and will be open until September 26. Please register online using the Enrichment link from the PTA website stemk8pta.org or if needed, download a paper form and turn it into the PTA Enrichment Program mailbox in the front office with your payment during office hours. Paper registration forms will also be available in the office. Participants are selected on a first come, first serve basis. All programs have minimum and maximum enrollment numbers, so please consider registering in a timely manner to ensure the programs can run and that your child has a spot in the desired classes. Volunteers: One volunteer is needed for each class. Volunteers will help with signing students in and out of class, as well as, help instructors. Volunteers will receive 50% off tuition for the class and priority enrollment. Scholarships are available. If you can volunteer, need a scholarship, or have any questions, contact Linnea Seidelmann at afterschool@stemk8pta.org Frequently Asked Questions: How will my student get to afterschool enrichment? Each classroom teacher is given a list of their students who are taking Enrichment classes. Students who are enrolled in Enrichment classes for a particular day are walked to the hallway between the gym and the cafeteria by their classroom teacher where they are met by the Parent Volunteers who take roll and encourage the student to eat their packed from home snack. The Parent Volunteer walks the students to their Enrichment Classroom by 4:00pm. What if my student enrolls for a class and it is not a good fit? Enrichment is about trying something new. If an Enrichment class is not working out, notify the Enrichment Coordinator before the third class. Either we can work together to remedy the issue or a refund can be issued. Many classes will have waitlists, so please notify the Enrichment Coordinator as soon as possible if you have had a change of plans and are no longer planning to attend an Enrichment class.
