HZB 301 Course Culminating Activity PHILOSOPHERS THAT MATTER THE RATIONALE Does Philosophy matter? Are Philosophers more than just a bunch of old sceptical wordy guys? Are the arguments and ideas that they engage in really worth the paper they’re printed on? Are exercises in rationality, and logic merely mental gymnastics or do they provide means to chart through muddied ethical/intellectual waters? Does mind matter? Let’s assume an affirmative to at least one of the above questions. One way to explore and articulate contributions of philosophy is by way of studying the philosophers themselves. An examination of their life work offers conceptual lenses to view cotemporary issues. This culminating activity is an exercise in putting on a “Philosopher’s glasses” and fixing your gaze on a current social event or issue. The successful completion of the activity will depend on the application of the research, comprehension, analysis and synthesis skills developed throughout the course. You will be compiling a book on your personal philosophy. This assignment is worth 10% of your total grade. THE TASKS: OVERVIEW Complete the following tasks and hand in all components together.
