Program Description
Emphasis in Arts and Humanities
Select a minimum of eighteen (18.0) units from the following Arts and Humanities courses. For depth, include a
minimum of two courses from a single discipline; for breadth, include course from at least two disciplines.
Courses can be counted toward completion of General Education requirements.
These courses emphasize the study of cultural, literary, humanistic activities and artistic expression of human
beings. Students will evaluate and interpret the way in which people through the ages in different cultures have
responded to themselves and the world around them in artistic and cultural creation. Students will also learn to
value aesthetic understanding and incorpo- rate these concepts when constructing value judgments.
This area of emphasis allows students to select courses that will prepare them for possible majors at four-year
colleges and universities typically within the fields of Art History, Communication Studies, Language Studies,
Literature, Humanities, Philosophy/Religious Studies and other disciplines.
Minimum of eighteen (18.0) units in one selected Emphasis 18.0
All required courses must be completed with a grade of “C” of better.
