Read the story, You are Special and Discuss 2. Use the “Talking Stick” for questioning/ comments 3. Discuss Indian Adage: “ You never understand how a man feels until you walk a mile in his shoes. “ 4. Shoe Activity- Write a way that you can show empathy to others then decorate your shoe. Exit slip: Completion of a sentence on the “shoe” that shows knowledge gained of meaning of term empathy. Students sit back to back with one person giving instructions on how to draw the picture they are holding. Discuss; then switch and discuss how it was different. Introduce ‘talking stick’ if needed. Exit slip: Completion of a one paragraph reaction to the activity today on how they can show more empathy in future situations.
