Delegates listen to a presentation at the “Wake Up to Employment” networking event, April 2014
Networking: Wake up to employment
We have successfully launched a new
series of networking events aimed at
members and potential new members
across the region. Raven Housing Trust
hosted the first breakfast seminar:
‘Wake up to employment’ which
highlighted
good
practice
in
employment support initiatives.
25
delegates from across the region came
together to share ideas, ask questions
and debate the role of housing
providers in employment support.
We heard speakers from Amicus
Horizon and Raven Housing Trust who
explained how they are supporting
residents into employment. There was
lively discussion about increasing
employment opportunities for young
people and the delivery of effective
apprenticeship schemes.

“In the 25th year of our highly
successful regional
conference, it was wonderful
to see the engagement
between increasing numbers
of delegates and exhibitors as
well as lively discussion about
topical issues within our
sector.’,
Anne Chapman, CIH SE Chair
at the recent Conference in
Brighton
It was also an opportunity to step back
and think about the wider role of
housing providers. What is our role?
Should we be providing employment
opportunities and support? How does
this fit with our core service as landlords?
Do initiatives like this provide value for
money and how can we measure social
value effectively?
This topic has proved to be very popular
and will be repeated at another
networking event later this year. Look out
for more details to be sent to you shortly.

Update from the Chair
It is a priority for me this year to increase effective
communication not only with our members but between our
members too.
As we move towards 2015 and the year of the next general
election, the CIH through our campaign ‘ticking the box for
housing’, is aiming to influence debate and thereafter
policies of the next government.
I would like to invite you to contribute to this campaign by
sharing your thoughts and ideas about ways to address the
housing crisis and the issues which we encounter in our dayto-day roles. We will be hosting round table discussions in the
months to come and if you would like to contribute at those
events,
please
