Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Services Mapping and Valuation Intern Point 97 and Ecotrust are jointly seeking an intern to advance our project work on mapping and valuing coastal and marine ecosystem services—particularly in the context of marine spatial planning efforts. The Ecosystem Services Intern will be an integral part of the Point 97 team and play a key role in advancing and shaping current and future project work. Key responsibilities/deliverables of the Ecosystem Services Intern are to: 1) Conduct and synthesize an extensive literature review of costal and marine ecosystem service valuation and mapping tools, initiatives, and studies to serve as a key reference for project staff to understand the current state of the field of work. This includes providing an overview, project examples/geographies, and key strengths and weaknesses of tools and initiatives found. 2) Produce a set of recommendations to Point 97 and Ecotrust staff as to how we may advance our work to remain at the leading edge of ecosystem service mapping and valuation; and 3) Assist and contribute to ongoing ecosystem service valuation and mapping project work such as survey design, survey tool testing, data analysis methods, statistical analysis, and report writing. The intern would be exposed to the fast-paced work environment and wide array of marine spatial planning projects/staff at Point 97 as well as projects/staff at Ecotrust. This is an excellent way to learn about the issues and innovative solutions that researchers and professionals at the cutting edge of marine spatial planning and environmental conservation/community development are working on. Point 97’s Lead Project Manager Dr. Cheryl Chen and Ecotrust’s Economist Dr. Noah Enelow will jointly manage the intern. Together the intern and supervisors will establish an internship work plan which includes specific contributions the intern will make to Point 97 and Ecotrust’s ecosystem services valuation and mapping work. The intern will have regular check in with supervisors and at the end of their internship will present his/her work to the supervisors and other Point 97 and Ecotrust staff. The intern will be located at the Point 97 office in Portland, Oregon and will be full-time (40 hours/week) with a flexible start date between June 1st and June 15th for a six week duration.
