Students consider impact of sexually transmitted diseases and use of contraceptives in this context. Unit focuses on menstrual cycle and use of hormones as a contraceptive. Introduce guiding question and determine and counter misconceptions about AIDS. Learning Experiences and Teaching Strategies (Formative assessments included) Use the HIV Facts Quiz and lesson plan. Ask one of the students who went to Romanian orphanages to come and talk to class about their experiences and reflect on the guiding question. Understand the role of hormones for contraception and fertility treatment and Understand the importance of barrier contraceptives to avoid sexually transmitted diseases. Provide students with information from a packet of contraceptive pills, summaries of controlling fertility and other applications of hormones. They should make summary notes and answer discussion questions. Complete worksheet on other forms of contraceptives. 7. To understand the impact of AIDS around the world and how where you live can determine the impact this disease has on society.
