AP Studio - 2014 Summer Preparation: - The expectation of AP Studio is to create and submit a 2D Portfolio or a Drawing Portfolio that demonstrates your visual voice and technical mastery of media. - Each portfolio is comprised of 12 Concentration works, 12 Breadth works and 5 Quality works. Concentration is based on a statement of exploration for which you demonstrate the statement of inquiry through 12 works of art. Breath is a body of 12 works that demonstrate exploration and mastery using a variety of media in 2D/Drawing. Quality is a body of work that demonstrates your technical mastery, you may include one or two of you breath or concentration in you quality work. Quality work may not exceed 18" x 24" - Your Exam is you submission. 12 Concentration and 12 Breath works will be digitally submitted to AP College Board by scheduled date. 5 Quality pieces will be physically mailed to College board through PSHS Coordinator During the school year, students will establish accounts with College Board to up load artist statements and work as it is created. - How to proceed: A) Review the handouts of examples submitted to you of AP Studio, be familiar with expectations. B) Visit these sights in person or virtually to explore art work, be inspired, and establish possible areas of art interest. MFA, Boston, MA Moma, NY Met, NY MassArt, MA Choose 2 artists who work in a style or uses imagery that relate to. C.) Drawing/Painting Assignments: 1. Draw/paint the inside of (choose one): a junk drawer, refrigerator door, bathroom cabinet, jewelry box, closet, shoe rack..... 2. Draw/paint a table setting/plate of food on a table. 3. Draw/paint a turned stair case. 4. Draw/paint your living room. 5. Draw/paint movement, roller coasters, bikes, waves, but your composition should have an obvious and strong sense of movement Remember - The more work you do now, the easier your year will be and the stronger your portfolio. D.) Sketch book: Suggestions…. 1. Draw/paint three views of a bike showing movement. 2. Draw/paint yourself in blue, red, yellow, black and white, all to include writing, and collage (full spread each, no paper showing, total of 4 works 3. Continue to keep a sketch book. Working 20 minutes each day, gives you the practice and edge when creating a portfolio. Draw common objects, patterning, enlargements. Draw form observation, your photos, and moving images(bugs, trucks…) 4. Illustrate news events 5. Draw your feet 3 times 6. Draw part or all of three kinds of trees. E.) Statement: To be finalized in by November 1st: 1. Read the statements and reviews of AP College board art submissions paying attention to the artist(student) statements. 2. List possible interests/investigations that you would like to pursue with you artwork that reflects you visual voice. Self exploration, community links, Cultural, Social issues,…. 3. Reflect on your strengths: 2D (Principles of design using multimedia, painting, printing, collage, technology...) Drawing portfolio (mark making and rendering in all dry medias with limited wash and printmaking) F.) Other information: - You may sign out materials if needed. - Collect articles, information or visually interesting images to have in your sketchbook. - Sketchbook work should be done in your current sketchbooks, ask for a new book if needed. - We will be reviewing the summer work as a class and individually upon returning to school. - It is an expectation that students take full advantage of the studio after school. - Homework is expected and will be graded. - Students will participate in an AP Studio Art Show and Senior Show, if the student is a senior.
