A special study will be made of the constitutions of the United States and Missouri. Meets Missouri 170.011 R.S. MO Requirements. Required Text Kennedy, D.M., Cohen, L., & Bailey, T.A. (2006). Student Learning Objectives After completing this course, the student should be able to: Discuss the key events, major ideas, ad personalities that have influenced American History since Reconstruction Describe the impact of those factors on American economic, political, social and cultural development Understand the role that historians play in the interpretation of history Produce historical and written analyses that reflect a critical understanding of American History Grading Policy and Assessment of Student Learning Quizzes: Expect one quiz each week, primarily on Fridays. Quizzes will cover readings, lecture material and class discussion. Over the course of this semester there will be 10 quizzes for a total point value of 200 points. Class assignments: Students will complete periodic assignments, which may include additional internet forums, document reading and analysis, group activities or individual presentations. Total point values will not exceed 100. Writing assignments and projects: Students will complete formal writing, over historical content and/or historical analysis, and complete projects involving the use of both primary and secondary documents. Point values for all writing assignments and projects will not exceed 150 points. Exams: There will be three examinations over the course of the semester. The first two exams will be worth 100 points, and the final exam will be worth 150 points for a total of 350 points. Exam #1 will cover chapters 22-27, Exam #2 will cover chapters 28-35 and Exam #3 will cover chapters 36-42 as well as all other preceding chapters. (Refer to Final Exam explanation within this syllabus) 1 Participation: Over the course of the semester, there will be opportunities for class discussion, hands-on activities and group work. You will be assessed on your attendance and positive contributions to the class. Participation will equal 100 points. POI policy: Power of Incomplete is a policy adhered to in the social studies department. POI policy for Dual Credit History 112 states that you must score above 70% on each examination with the exception of the final. This class moves at a staggering rate and missing one class may mean missing an entire chapter of material. It is the student’s responsibility to contact another student in the class for class notes or refer to our class website. Should a student miss a quiz or test, they are to come in before/after school or during Mascot Pride Time. We will cover chapters 22-42 from The American Pageant over the course of the 19 week winter semester. Final Exam The final exam is a comprehensive multiple choice and essay exam that incorporates material from the entire semester. This exam will be 15% of your overall course grade, or 150 points, and will cover chapters 22-42 of The American Pageant. Optional Instructor Policies or Information Dual Credit History 112 is a weighted course at My School High School. Weighted classes are more challenging than a normal college preparatory curriculum and provide increased rigor for advanced students that wish to challenge themselves. “Weighting” a grade adds to the grade point value earned in selected courses. Grades of A, B, C, and D earned in weighted classes will earn an extra grade point.
