The Coordinator, Internship and Employer Relations, develops, implements and assesses programs and activities designed to assist University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) students in identifying and internship and career employment interests and opportunities within the context of the global economy. In addition, the position cultivates relationships with employers to generate career employment and internship opportunities for UNR students, as well as career fairs, employer panels, and alumni mentorship programs. The Coordinator, Internship and Employer Relations, works closely with the leadership of the Assistant Director, to plan and direct Career Studio programming efforts designed to engage students in the active development of professional identities and career plans. The Coordinator focuses particularly on ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to secure successful internships and post-baccalaureate job opportunities. The Coordinator coordinates internship activities with career professionals across the University, including academic units and colleges. The position is engaged in continuous assessment of student needs to ensure effectiveness in addressing emerging issues in career and internship development. If line of progression, define for each range as above. 40% - Internship and Employment Preparation Programming Develops and facilitates innovative, multidisciplinary, experiential learning programs for undergraduate and graduate students in all majors, including internship programs, job shadow experiences, and professional development coaching Develops, manages, and advertises the experiential learning resources, as well as fulltime employment and internship opportunities available to students 1 Coordinator, Internship and Employer Relations Guides students through the development of individual career action plans and post-baccalaureate preparation, especially job and internship readiness Facilitates internship and professional development workshops to a variety of student and parent audiences, including at new student orientation, to special population groups, and in classrooms Collaborates with academic units and colleges to provide students with internship experiences that complement programs and activities offered by the department/college Collaborates with faculty and administration to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships Creates content for Internship Services webpage, including forms, policies, and resources for students and employer Designs curriculum and teaches experiential internship course 40% - Employer Relations Identifies and develops relationships with regional, state, national, and international organizations and employers through outreach, site visits, association meetings, and conferences in order to increase the number and quality of internship and job opportunities for students Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure a dynamic recruiting program that reflects the needs and expectations of both employers and students Coordinates and oversees career events such as career fairs, networking events, and on-campus interviewing Establishes and maintains a database of corporate contacts and campus recruiting events Oversees operation of online job-posting software Advises employers on effective means of campus recruitment to meet the employer’s specific needs, and on the development of job description language to increase recruitment success for employers and students Identifies employer partners for active collaboration with the university through monetary program collaboration or sponsorships 20% - Program Development, Coordination, Management, and Assessment Provides leadership and direction for internship and employer relations programming Develops marketing material and strategy for increasing awareness and engagement in experiential learning programs; designs and distributes employer marketing material for the Career Studio Works closely with the Associate Director on the recruitment, training, and supervision of student employees and support staff Assesses and evaluates the outcomes achievement and effectiveness of internship programs and services 3. The Coordinator has autonomy to create and manage innovative and effective internship and career-preparation efforts on campus. Decisions made by the Coordinator include those related 2 Coordinator, Internship and Employer Relations to the development of internship and career development services and direction included in the Division’s strategic plan. When donation and/or funding are involved, the individual works closely with Development and Alumni Relations staff. The Coordinator is responsible for a high level of coordination and communication with students and employers, as well as active involvement in goal-setting and strategic planning. The Coordinator’s actions impact student enrollment, persistence, graduation and transition into professional employment. The Coordinator is highly visible to employers and professional interactions reflect on the reputation of the University. 4. The Coordinator consults with the Assistant Director, Career Studio, on overall program development and implementation as well as with the Director, Counseling Services.
